Hi there,

I'm thinking of getting a 3CCD HDD camera. I'm not really into tape at all. The HVX is of course too expensive, so I'm looking at either the JVC Everio or the Sony HDR-SR7E.

Brief specs:

Everio
3CCD 1/5 inch sensor - 530k pixels
Uses MPEG-2 TS system. 60 Gb HDD
Output for stills/moving images = 2.14 Megapixels effective
Rec modes:
--FHD mode (1920x1080i @ 26.6 Mbps)
--SP mode (1440x1080i @ 19 Mbps)
--1440CBR mode (1440x1080i @ 27 Mbps)

The Sony appears to have a bigger image sensor, although it seems to offer quite compressed recording modes in comparison

HDR-SR7E
1x 1/3" CMOS sensor - 2,280K pixels for 16x9, 1,710K pixels for 4:3
Uses "MPEG-4 AVC / H.264" system. 60 Gb HDD
Output for stills = 6.1 Megapixels, moving image res = 4.6 MP.

HD rec modes:
--LP (5 Mbps - 25 hrs)
--SP (7 Mbps - 18 hrs)
--HQ (9 Mbps - 14 hrs)
--XP (15 Mbps - 8 hrs)
SD rec modes:
--LP (3 Mbps - 42 hrs)
--SP (6 Mbps - 21 hrs)
--HQ (9 Mbps - 14 hrs)

Which one would you guys recommend?

Thanks,

Have you decided which one you getting?

I've been thinking about the Everio, kinda want to experiment with it and see the quality I would get with it. $1200.00 is not bad I guess.

Will keep you posted.
