Just thought I'd share.

My brother in law was in the demolition derby at our local fair this weekend. I used my 7D to shoot it. As I was preparing to roll, I happened to turn around and gaze upon this marvelous sight.

This is unaltered, except that I decreased the dimensions to 20% of actual to fit the page. No photoshopping was done.

Love the photo, but I really wanted to ask about the demolition derby... how did your brother do, what kind of car was he using? Did you get any footage?

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think that the action of a demolition derby, shot properly, would be incredibly cinematic. Maybe we can convince a bunch of 7D owners to strap their rigs to the hoods of some derby cars? Ok, that's not going to happen, but I would love to see the footage that could come out of that.

Hahaha. The derby was good. It was his first time ever. Out of 10 cars, he was one of the final 3. He ruptured his gas tank, when he rear-ended one of the other cars and went up on two wheels, while the other two rode the roof of the other car. It was pretty awesome.

The footage is good, but not great. It's one angle, mostly static (though handheld); a 55mm lens from about 100 feet away (not a lot of choices).

I couldn't have the iris fully open, to increase the focal plane, but because the sun was going down(as you can see haha) I had to boost the ISO, so the footage is noisy as hell :/

I plan on uploading it to youtube or vimeo this evening (if I have time). If I do, I'll post the links.
