Just received my ciecio7 Nikon/GH1 adapter

I just received my ciecio7 (purchased through e-bay - delivery was super fast) and there's one problem with it; the knob that's supposed to adjust your aperture is exactly there where your tripod adapter or other camera support would be. For example it cannot be used in combination with Manfrotto 577 / 501PL adapter plates. If the knob would have been made a bit shorter it could be used in combination with any camera support plate. Apart from this, controlling the aperture works fine.

My mate has the adapter without the aperture knob and that one is as good as my FD adapter. Sorry to hear that this one isn't as well made.

I have the one without the aperture knob as well....placement of the knob is dictated by the way the lenses work. Mine without the knob is well built and works great...I don't think there's any plastic in it...

Mine is 90% made of plastic and I think it should be possible to place the knob on the top and use a pull mechanic rather than push. I'll add a photo to my original post. This adapter would probably work with the smaller Manfrotto 200PL14 plate but the mid to high range Manfrotto video tripod heads all work with the larger 501PL plate as shown on my photos.

Martti,

I am about to order thos " 35" things you suggested including their follow focus. Do you think if I would go for your solution:

attachment.php

and screw the top plate to the GH1 directly, I would be able to operate the knob of the ciecio7? Apart from mentioned problem, the ciecio7 works fine, changing aperture works fine.

If you use the front 1/4" hole it sure looks like it judging from your photo of the adapter and probably also with the back 3/4". I have a Manfrotto 323 quick release (with the 200PL14) on top of the baseplate and again when looking at your photo I think that one will clear the knob as well. No promises though ;)

You need a 1/4" screw that's only threaded on the top BTW but I guess you knew that. And also you might want to order a second Riser Block to get a bit more distance between the bottom baseplate and the rails - I'm about to order one extra for myself.

Stacking two riser blocks on top of each other you mean? And I don't want to use a quick release adapter between the "35" plate and the GH1 because I will already use a quick release adapter between the hand-held rig and my tripod so that I can easily switch from hand-held shooting to tripod based shooting. All the b-hague stuff arrived today by the way, I ordered a lot of grip stuff, when I put everything together I'll post some photos. Then after that I want to add the "35" follow focus and a matte box and then I should be ready.

Are you sure its plastic?
My fd adapter came today and its so light it seems like plastic but its anodised aluminium as described.

No, one on top of the tripod connector and one below.

I have one 323 on my tripod as well and a 200PL14 underneath the rod rig, that way I can either use the rod rig or the camera on it without having to unscrew anything. Sometimes I want to keep things simple and light, just go out to shoot with just the camera and tripod with no rod or follow focus. I also have 484 ball head on my Gorilla Pod and a 323 on my shoulder brace - so camera or camera+rod rig goes everywhere with just a quick snap-clic.

Ok thanks for explaining Martti. I want to set-up things so that I'll always have the follow focus attached to the camera, whether I am shooting handheld or from a tripod. But I'll get there somehow, I'll order the "35" parts today and will let you know how things go. I put the camera on the b-hague camframe yesterday and I really like it :-)

I took a closer look again and I guess you're right. I will remove that comment from my original post. It's the remains of glue that made me think it was made of plastic but it's already an old, not important story now.
