Just premiered 7D music video

I see what you're getting at here, and I think it's an "ok" video.
I really like the scene where they lie head to head and he plays the guitar. The colors remind me of a washed out 90's 35mm panavision print. I don't know if you tried to make it that way, but it was cool.
Other than that I don't think it was that cinematically difficult it seems, and the color pallette (other than the scene I was talking about) is a bit bland. None of the scenes really pop out.

But keep doing what you are doing!

My two cents :)

Thanks for the feedback. The client didn't want to pay for what I'm capable of, so he didn't get it. The shoot was supposed to be 2 days and I was supposed to have 2 assistants, but alas. We did the best we could in the time we had. And he didn't want to pay for many hours of editing.

Which unfortunately no one really knows when they see ones work. In my opinion you should always do your best, especially in post when you have the time. This is your work and what you are judged on. Now regarding the video I think less performances and more narrative would have worked better. Especially for this kind of song.

I agree. I've done more cinematic music videos, but the video that exists is exactly what the client wanted. I agree that you should do your best, but at the end of the day, you obey the guy who's name is on the check. I storyboarded an entire video of narrative shots, to edit over the band on the beach. When we arrived, the client decided that he wanted to band to play the whole song through in every location, knowing full well that we'd sacrifice most of the narrative shots. The video being as good as it is is a miracle haha.

In an unrelated note, I showed the client another video I did and he asked "why isn't mine as good as that one?" And I said, because we had 4 times as long to shoot it and twice the crew. Not to mention, it costs 2.5 times as much.

Yeah, sorry to hear that. I have ran into that problem before...... I know for a fact if they would have let you do your job they could have had something really nice as I like the narrative parts, but agree with you that having the band perform the whole video is not something that fits the project. Regardless keep moving as projects will always get better!

Clients... facepalm10.jpg

I've had a client like that, but I actually stood up and fought dearly for a shot to stay in the cut... he eventually gave in.... and the shot was the best scene in the video...
