Now it may come off "noobish" but call it what you'd like. I got this camera mostly for the HD video feature, and also because I no longer "need" a 35mm adapter. I just wanted to see what all the hype is about with the DSLR movement if you will. I have not gotten a chance to test it yet, due to the battery charging 15 hrs on the first charge thing, but if someone could maybe help me out on how to get the shallow dof look on the video I'd really appreciate it. I currently only have the kit lens, but I plan to expand that very soon.

ALSO, if anyone here has recorded on a 16gb class 6 card, any idea how much video you get out of that??

Thanks in advance everyone for your time.

My battery was 3/4 charged, according to the camera, when I first opened the box. It sure didn't take 15hrs to full charge it. I think this is for new batteries that have never been charged.

You're gonna have to work harder using the kit lens to get that DOF look, but it's not impossible. First, make sure your T2i is set for manual exposure. Set your aperture to f/5.6 to keep your exposure from changing at various focal lengths. Start shooting various subjects at different focal lengths to get an idea of your DOF. Best solution is to get a f/2.8 constant aperture zoom or a fast prime.

awesome.. Thanks, I really appreciate it. Yeah I plan on getting a couple more lenses this coming weekend..any input on what to get for a reasonable price?

any links for lenses like the ones above would be appreciated as well (sorry, I'm new to the whole DSLR thing....)

thanks again everyone

If you plan on shooting during the day and you want the shallow DOF, you will need to buy some ND filters, otherwise you will either have to close your aperture or crank your shutter speed up to get the light levels down.

I second that. I just shot a film with a 7D in Park City Utah where the snow overexposed everything! Even with the Lens zoomed all the way in and aperture at f/36!
