Just looking for some feedback...

This is the first music video that I've ever shot. I did it for my friends' band. From concept to finish it was one day. I think it came out pretty decent, but I still have A LOT to learn...I shot it with a DVX100b, just the camera by itself no lenses or adapters, and edited on Premiere Pro. How did some of you make your music videos look so professional with a DVX?

Also compression took away a lot from audio and video : (

Please be honest, whether it be praise or criticism...thank you

Honestly I thought it looked nice.....until they started playing........ it all just felt weird and the random quick zooms and flat color was a little tough to watch

i think it looked ok. i would have done something different with the lighting. the lighting was to be motivated by the candles right? once it goes to the wide shot it loses the vibe the candles had at the beginning. perhaps some gels/diffusion. a little color grading would have helped also, as stated above. though i can go along with some of the shaky handheld stuff, personally i would have incorporated more stable wider shots. .....just my 2 cents

I think the weakest thing this video has (not) going for it is the fact they are playing in what looks like a living room.

Keep at it.

The opening, slow motion shot across the Les Paul is nice. For what was done in a day, your friends should be stoked.

I would agree with everything mentioned above, especially the 'living room' vibe, a little more variety would've been nice. For instance cuts of the guitarist walking down a dark, backlit hallway silhouetted w/guitar (or something). If you've ever seen Metallica's "Whiskey in a Jar" video....they made a living room look cool (well, half naked girls always do...ha ha). Also, (and excuse me for nit-picking here) one of your jump cuts was off in the triangle-guitarist-rock-stance-head-banging-in-unison part.

Overall, not too bad. Just remember, you can't learn from your mistakes unless you go out and make them.

yeah, i know, haha like I said I have a lot to learn still but it was a spur of the moment thing so I didn't have very many choices for the location, it was just a room in a local church. If you guys could give me some advice on how to make the camera look better, I really did shoot it with a DVX100b believe or not haha.

Thanks for the feedback by the way. : )

Anything anyone can say to help me out, I would really really apprcieate it because I know I have a really good camera and I want to get the most out of it.

i'm pretty sure the camera is fine. even if you leave it on default f5 or f6, set proper exposure, and double check focus, you'll get a good image as far as the camera is concerned. the beginning was cool but still could have used a lot more light, while the bulk of the rock out footage needed more light control/modification. a little bit of production design would have helped ya know what it mean? dress your set up a little.......
