Hi Rich

Any particular programs you are using for doing previs?

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Hey John, we use softimage xsi and maya. Somtimes after effects to add some sort of explosion or lens flare or whatever to jazz up the image a bit. And we edit/sound work in premiere/pro, although depending on when we come on a film, we just hand the individual shots to the editors.

That is simply amazing. I didn't read your entire post before I watched the clip, and the whole time I was wondering if it was really DVX.

Very beautiful. Excelent job.

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

TC- Thanks, Its all about getting a clean image from the dvx and color correcting the hell out of it. The dvx is an amzing camera, i had the chance to shoot a couple TEMP inserts for a film im working on that was shot on super 35. After a bit of color correction, and once the editor cut them in (they are editing in video), people totaly forgot that they were shot with a video camera, they blend in pretty well. Its so funny, cause now, we are going into reshoots. and people are going, why do we have to reshoot those shots? People who dont know are basicly thinking its cause the director wants a different angle or something, but in reality, its cause its shot witha video camera, not film. funny....

mustaine-
1: i did the shake in after effects. using expressions i linked up the audio levels of the clip to drive the clips position. no tutorials though, sorry.
2: i prefer the dvx over the xl1s, hands down.
3: no green or blue screen. i just had them move over to a new place, and shot mulitple passes. i also shot a clean plate (no people) and im experimenting with difference keys. but they only work with locked off shots.
4: sure, send me an email.

Rich no doubt has shown the best work yet in my opinion. Honestly, I cant think of a better example technically than this. Panasonic should give him like 10 free DVX's.

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Awesome. A lot better than the XL2 vs DVX debate... shows you can spend more time making the vid!

Definitely has that Minority Report look.

Wow!

Could you tell me how many man hours (months!) you took in post production for visuals?

cool
thanx man

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

10 cameras! We could start doing matrix style bullet time camera setups with 10 cams!

Thanks for the complement John.

Jerry- For that clip, i think i spent off and on about 2 weeks doing post. That would be editing/compositin/modeling/animating. There is also more of the edit that i am not showing yet, as well as some other vfx type stuff. Also, im not doing this during the day, usualy if i have time i do a little bit a night and a bit on the weekends.

I still have a long way to go though.

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Its trully a work of art. Sharp, very well lit, excelent pacing, camera work and movements, script, post. It is great man! As mentioned it is the best work seen so far of the capabilities of the dvx100.

Well look forward to seeing the final clip.

Congrats!!

You will probably be leavin' us here soon..... goin' bick time. Simply put... SOLID.

Chris Joyce

ps. maybe it was my connection, but I thought I saw a little person towards the end, after the red led readout but before the fluid drip......? Looked like they were standing in a pile of, well, pubic hair. It must be LATE....

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Can I get a CD with more of their music?

Seriously.

(OK, finally found something to critique! I work in a hospital, and after watching the vid about 10 times - jamming the whole time, I noticed how dirty the instruments are during the scene where you show them laying on the tray/cart. Fingerprints, etc... But I don't think anyone else will notice ;D)

I really hope you got to play doctor with some of the talent : ;)

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

this is some really sweet stuff.

very "chris cunningham - aphex twin" type look to it...congrats on your work!

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

cjoyce- i believe the little person you saw is marilyn manson standing in a field, im using a couple inserts from a video of his until i shoot something similer, the pubic hair would be grass. ;)

gcaus- :D ****in fingerprints! yeah, that sucks....if i can i will reshoot that. we were moving so fast that we just glossed over some things...didnt see the fingerprints untel i catured the clips. i was trying so hard to shoot in a real hospital but they were going to charge like 10g's. The girl is pretty sweet, in some of the shots she looks like angelina jolie. She has a really sexy australian accent. Here is the bands site www.buckfastmusic.com

Ndelallana- thanks, chris cunningham has done some of my favs. the bjork alll is full of love video is amazing.

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

no prob. when i saw your video, i immediately thought of cunningham's "come on my selector - aphex twin" video...i think its the whole futuristic hospital thing.

dude, if we ever need a DP for a sci-fi flick, you're the man!

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

I'm not sure people pick up on the fingerprints, but it doesn't go with the "look"...

BTW, your quicktime vid is so clean. For example, I just looked at Heads or Tails trailer on another thread, and didn't compare to your clean look.

Did you do something special?

-Jerry

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Rich, is the video finished? Or is everyone still talking about the clip. The clip is awesome still, but I just dont want to be missing out if everyone has seen the finished product.

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Ndelallana- i love the come on my selector video.

gcaus- i used sorenson squeeze to make that quicktime, its great at making quality compressions at small file sizes.

Arcburn- nope, still talking about the clip. i will post when i have it done, hope to shoot the rest by next week. next time i will shoot it all in one go, rather then this peacemeal shiznit.

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Re: "be like you" music video (in progre

Hey Rich,

Simply spectacular. I know a video is good on this site when I get immediately jealous! Really raises the bar for the rest of us as far as visual treatments and production design go. You'll go far in the business. This has really challenged me to raise the bar on the quality of my music video work. It didn't hurt that you got a nice little budget to work with. Honestly, that video can be appraised around $25-$50k. If you tell people that it was shot on film for that budget, they will believe it.

Great job guy. Looking forward to seeing the final cut and more work in the future.

Cheers,

Anthony
