That is honestly as professional as anything I have ever seen. Amazing work. Great. Wow. The coloring, comps, lighting. I am impressed. Way to represent not only the DVX but DV Filmmakers. I cant wait to see the whole thing. Im enjoying the body of work you have shown. I like this not only for the technical execution but for the concept as well. Everyone should pay attention to this.
By the way, that song kicks ass and your website is in my FAVS list.

Sweet progress Rich. Definitely some of the most impressive and polished stuff I've seen from the DVX. How about some technical details. When you get a chance how bout shedding some light on your production, and especially post work. Awesome work.

LOL I thought the same thing. (No offense Matt; you know you do kick ass work!). From a conceptual point of view EVERYONE should take note. Not your usual 'pretty' music video. SOme real thought and originality went into this one

hey thanks guys, great to hear that people are diggin it so far. today was the first time i showed anything to a member of the band, and he was totaly diggin it. i was so nervous, this is my first music video, and was waiting for the call thinking he was going to hate it...
As far as camera goes, we had a dvx and a .6 lens. No filters. We rented 4 4' kinos, and a 1k arri light. I dont know any dp's that would do this for free, so i did all the lighting setups, pretty fun actualy, that was the first time i have attempted a professional lighting setup. anyway...we also rented a little doorway dolly and a porta jib.
The blured border and the vignetting was all done in AE. complimented by a little magic bullet action. Im also adding a little shake to the frame that is tied to the levels of the music. Im still messin around with that part of the look, the shaky image thing. Also doing ALOT of compositing, and some 3d work in XSI.
The location is a standing hospital set in west la. They rent it out with alot of medicallooking equipment included. At pretty reasonable prices. The set is actualy pretty trashy when you walk in though, but if you frame it right, and have some cool stuff inside it, it works ok. it looks like a run down hospital that hasnt been kept up in 20 years, smells like it too. None of the floors are anywhere near level, and most of the walls are broken/rotting away.

That was sweet...well lit, great color correction, too. Looks expensive.
I'm so jealous that you can model a human head without absolutely freaking out. I think I've cried before. Subdivision, the surface modifier, you name it, I've failed to make a human face with it....
I would never have guessed you'd shot on dv, though the .6 lens makes the DOF even more infinite so it doesn't quite look like film either....(but the blurred edges soften this somewhat.)

This freakin' rocks. I've been in awe of the frame grabs you've put on here for a while, and this only heightens your obvious talent. You could hire yourself out as a DoP with this as your reel. Congrats, waiting patiently for the final outcome.

Modeling those heads would take me forever....poser man! I havnt had to model a body part in ages...well maybe 2 years or soo..
Thanks John, i cant wait to shoot the rest of it and get it in the cut. It could very easly have been a performance video, but the band was down with trying something different. Luckly i talked with them when i did, they havnt been signed yet, and they just now have been meeting with lawyers and reps. The band told them about the video and they (lawyers and reps) get a little freaked, cause there is no performance other then Riddler (the singer in the vid), they want them to have some performance in the video cause they are so unknown. But after one of the guys in the band saw a bit of the cut today, he was worried that they would ruin it if they put any performance in it at all. So hopefully once its done the band will feel strongly enough about it being strictly conceptual that we can just leave it be. we shall see...

Hmmm. The dilemma. If the band just HAS TO BE IN IT then IM sure you will come up with interesting ways to incorporate this (maybe as fellow patients being wheeled by or even dead ones or even experiments or surgeries gone wrong. LOL )

..very very nice! i cant really say much more than whats been said already. excellent job!
..but on a side note, ive been aware that most of the excellent MV work we see around here is all shot at very wide angle(in this case even using an additional wide angle lense) with everything in sharp focus. and then some form of partiall blurring, blur vignetting, or DOF simulation is added in post with the color correction. this gives it that high polished sharp and contrasty MV look(but of course the main "look" factor is lighting). occasionally theres a shot with actual DOF from macro or from a tele position. IMHO its just kinda funny cause everyone is always quackalacking about DOF around here, but the things they like the most have the least DOF. ..now i also understand that the same production techniques applied throughout a feature film might drive a person crazy after 10 minutes due to the editing style of films vs MVs, and of course the length and content. but in the MV world its a very stylish, and appropriate avenue to get "the look" that we obviosly all love.
...so please take notice people. DOF is NOT the end all be all big whammo factor in making somthing look filmic, or good. its just another tool in the bag.

Would be nice to have some of these projects "deconstructed" for others on the forum. Lots of good info that could be shared.. perhaps Jarred could put up a behind the scenes forum....
I'm guessing the placards were the clips with the doctor / nurses against the "minority report" wall? - That's a great effect to dupe if so.

The part where the lights start to turn on is also very nice. Is beatifully done and very well produced, besides you really add to the production value with the very nice CG. That tomography thing looks so real! I'm guessing you come from a post production background, no?
