Where Can I Get everthing i need for a good price?

i'll warn u from now :) just saying you need everything doesnt do much...so u prolly wont get much help here on the boards. Standard lens focal lenghts for musiv vids and films are 18,24,35,85 primes. and 17-50. 24-70 zooms

You have to be more specific ina lot of things to get better answers. btw "cheap" and "good price" are relative. Zeiss CP2 lenses are about 6grand a pop. but thats "cheap" in relation to master primes or cooke lenses

If your looking for cheap rigs like a dolly and other parts that aren't too technical i would suggest checking out the DIY section on these boards. Lots of great ideas and inspiration.

As far as what lenses to get. That sure is a can of worms. A lot of people here will tell you to pick up a canon 50mm 1.8. Great little lens for the price. Works very well considering how fast it is at that price. And then from there i would suggest going to your local pawn shops/thrift stores or antique stores and looking for old lenses. Basically everything other than old canon FD lenses will work with nothing more than a physical adapter.

Maybe we could help you out better if you could give us examples of work you like. Then we can look at it and tell you what types of lenses were used to get the desired effects.

I recommend posting this in the 7d lens sub-forum (which should really be renamed to just lens discussion as it is not 7d specific).

But before even that, I recommend you do more research here first, and ask more specific questions. I still consider myself a newbie and ask my share of dumb questions, but asking stuff like "where can I get everything I need?" sounds like you don't know what you are doing yet.

Where Can I get A Cheap Dolly?

What do you mean by cheap? Do you mean cheap quality that you will probably regret buying and need to replace with a more expensive one? Don't do it.

Where Can I Get everthing i need for a good price?

Lots of places to get things at a good price, but if it looks too good to be true it really is. Quality costs money, and the best advice I can give is don't buy cheap quality products, look for good quality products at discount prices, or better yet, used where possible. Look in the Marketplace board here on DVX.

Buying 'cheap' causes lots of people to 'give up' on things because they aren't getting the results they were hoping to get, and never will. I remember a friend proudly telling me he'd bought a 28-300mm lens for $199 and how awesome it was going to be, but when he got it the results were so terrible he soon realised he'd wasted his money. So, go careful.

In terms of glass (lenses) then the typical 'great value' is the 50mm f1.8, but be aware, it's not the best lens in the world. Others to check out are the Sigma 30mm and 50mm primes.

The reality is that for most types of shots, Canon has this wonderfully sharp lens: the EFS 15-85mm IS USM 3.5-5.6 for $700 - and even at it's zoomed end, 5.6 is not a terrible aperture if you are using set lighting like what is generally required for music videos. The lens is literally one of the sharpest Canon lenses around below the L series, even at the aperture of 3.5. It's one I highly recommend for the range it has, both in the zoom and wide angle end, and because it has IS, manual focus override, a non-rotating barrel, distance numbers, great build quality, ect ect. An alternative to that is another lens that is incredibly sharp for the price, the EFS 18-200mm 3.5-5.6 IS, for $500, which can be paired well with a wide angle range lens, for instance the 10-22mm 3.5-4.5 USM. If you want me to be honest, though, I think that the latter two lenses would be a bit of a waste purchase, I would bet that a range like 15-85mm is the only range you'll ever use in filmmaking, and since that lens is $700 and an all-in-one type lens with IS and an ample range on both the wide and zoom ends, I would say it would be a better and and cheaper purchase as opposed to two separate lenses like the 10-22mm and 18-55mm or 18-200mm. The 15-85 as an all-in-one lens is a really good range (24mm-135mm Full Frame Equivalent), as well as causing you to change lenses much less for a ample wide angle shot. But it's just an idea, a 10mm range may indeed suit your needs better, depending on how wide you want to go.

If you still want to purchase a wider angle lens, I would honestly say that it'd be a better idea to purchase the Sigma 8-16mm 4.5-5.6 DC HSM, it's almost the same exact lens, even in terms of sharpness and quality, but with 2mm's more of wide angle and no waste on the 16mm end. Same price, too, $700. Or there's a Sigma 10-20mm 3.5, also for $700. Heck, there's even a Sigma 10-20mm 4.5-5.6 for only $500. All the way around, it seems like Sigma may have a few lenses that are a bit more efficient and better for the price than the Canon version.

Wow, compared to WHAT? Sorry Snapper123, but the EF-S 18-200 is NEVER going to be "incredibly sharp" ............... unless you are comparing it to a Jam Jar of course ;)

No offense. Don't agree with this. Not trying to start a war here but don't agree and I wouldn't advise him this. The lens sucks. 3.5-5.6 is terrible.

Hi there i also just got a T2I, the canon 50mm 1.8 lens is brilliant first lens and one of the cheapest out there. it has a real film effect look to it. check it out on youtube.

It depends on your budget and needs.
If you are shooting music videos it will probably involve low light shooting at some point so get a constant f2.8 zoom as your daily driver. I got a Tamron 17-50 2.8 and it is sharp and the best lens in it price range.

For a tripod also a matter of price. I have a Sachtler and 2 Millers, but they are expensive and big. They were purchased for film packages for much heavier cameras. Now I'm looking at a few ultra light tripods that cost almost nothing to carry around where ever I go.
Some might laugh at this cheap tripod and I would have a year ago, but for $149 it's not a bad carry around.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/366741-REG/Velbon_DV_7000_DV_7000_Tripod_with_2_Way.html

Has adjustable drag and although light and a little flimsy compared to bigger units it can get a steady tilt and pan. The truth is I carry my 60D with me 24-7 and it's not realistic to bring along the Sachtler or a Miller.

For wheels look on Ebay. You can get a Panther Dolly for $85,000.00 or this set of wheels for $118

From experience..... you always should try to get a lens with the fastest aperture you can get. Having the option to open up to say 1.8 or 1.4 not only can look great but can be a real life saver on a shoot. In addition to that it is important to have that freedom. You can always stop down if you don't need that much light but the good thing is that if you stop down it can only get sharper. So even if you end up shooting say at f4 your image will be very sharp (more or less, every lens is different) because lenses tend to be sharper stopped down 2 stops from wide open. (not all but many)

Lens is sharp but sucks. Really sucks. I own it along with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 and a 28mm Canon. Stay away from the 50mm 1.8. It's cheap yeah but horrible build, horrible focus ring and too telephoto. The Sigma 30mm and the 28mm Canon are great but I prefer the Canon. Way more worth it.

It also has lots of distortion that not many people mention. I only really noticed it when I was comparing several other lenses at 50mm. I took mine back and replaced it with a 50/1.4 - never ever regretted it - the 1.2 is on my wish list but the 1.4 does pretty well. However, I'd also take a good look at the sigma - which wasn't available to me in the time scale I needed.

But please (and I can't say this enough) don't waste your money on f5.6 lenses (or even f4) - no matter how cheap or great value they seem - you will regret it big time if you ever need to shoot in low light.

I picked up the Nikon Series E 28/2.8, 35/2.5, and 100/2.8. I already owned a Nikon 50/1.8 D. I plan on getting a 20mm Nikkor and a manual Focus 50, as well as a manua focus 85. I had my 35mm's iris de-clicked by the Used Department at B&H Photo.

Tripod, for now I am using my Gitzo phototripod with a Manfroto 701RC head.

what does "declicked" mean?
I also went vintage nikon, but went too large (smallest lens is a 50/1.4, need something wider). Looking at an e-series 28 2.8, do you like yours? Seems there are two kinds of that lens, the e-series and the nikkor. The nikkor is supposedly the "higher end" version, but what does that mean? The e series are often half the price, is it really worth the difference?
I was reluctant to "settle" for the E, but if you like it, maybe its not so bad...
