I just received my HVX setup that I bought on here from TwistedLincoln and I couldn't be more excited. It came with THE HVX BOOK, and I'm going to start reading it now, but I'd like to go shoot with it tomorrow for fun since it's gonna be a nice day and all. Anything I should know of before I go shoot taht I might not get to tonight in my reading?

It's a used setup so do I still need to format the P2 card or anything like I've read?

format the p2 and charge the battery. Set everything to auto and press the record button.

After you get used to it that way, you can then start playing with manual focus, etc.

run in auto but turn off AGC. turn on all indicators in the viewfinder so you can see what the camera is doing. shoot 720-60p. read.

kind of knew all this, except why start in 60i? I was mostly fooling around today in 30p shooting some BMX stunts.

there is no 720/60i. there is 60p, but no 60i. 720 is always progressive, not interlaced. if you want the film look, shoot 720/24pn. then you can over/undercrank your frame rate for slow/fast motion in camera.

I've been lurking on here for two years almost, and have used the HVX a number of times before I bought mine, but just wanted to know if there were any tricks to first time setting up and workflow, since most of the time I've only filmed with it. But I appreciate the advice!

Professor:

I too thank you so much for your page. Panasonic's P2 pages are the most confusing, messy and unclear pages I have ever seen from a major manufaturer. Your page, on the other hand is neat, clean, simple and easy to use.

You are providing a great service for all P2 users, I send everyone I know using P2 to your page.

All my best,

Dan

yes that page is incredible, but I am a bit confused with all of the information on there. I'm not sure what exactly to download, and which versions.

Let's start with what operating system, computer and editing software you have.

Macbook Pro 2.2 Ghz, 2 GB Ram, and using 10.4 OS. I'll be getting Final Cut Studio 2 this week, so I guess the latest version of FCP for editing.

Listen for the klunk when you first start up. It might be something wrong with the camera, but in all likelihood it is just a normal feature of the camera when starting up. Most of all don't let anyone try and scare you that the camera is broken, it does have a normal klunk to it when it starts up. Sorry to spoil the fun of some of you guys out there, but it really is a coronary to hear that klunk the first day!
