I just got my cam today and am a little worried about a loose sound it makes when tipped back and forth when the power is off......when its on....it stops.....is that normal......Asking you guys because ive had a very terrible experience buying this cam.....I also purchased a digital optics .5 wide angle lense(that he talked me into) but I dont think its right........the corners of my picture are rounded in black......like im seeing the converter lense..........that cant be right can it?.......he said that this wide angle converter will work with any camera........is this true? Any input would be appretiated.....Im going to bed with my manuals tonight so maybe I will find out something there............thnx......
PS...this site is what made me land on this camera......lots of extremely usefull stuff for a newbie to read........

Since you have had a bad time, I will calm your nerves and not put you through the hell of the ticking time bomb clicking sound that the camera makes. It is normal.
As far as the other stuff, it sounds like you got it from an ebay dealer or something like that. Anything called digital optics is complete junk, and I hope you didn't pay extra for that. Did you get Barry's book and Magic bullet stuff? If you are in the states, this should be included in with the camera.

yeh....im reading that book now and saw the magic bullet stuff...........thnx.........I will be returning the wide angle lense(hopefully he doesnt fight me about it).....I did pay a lot extra for that and some other items........classic hasty move on my part.......but I feel a little misled.......anyway thanks for calming my nerves.....

if you don't mind the question, where did you get the camera? people may be able toadvise you on a strategy for returning the lense.

Sorry man, you've been scammed by the gray market. Good luck returning that crappy glass. It wasn't necessarily a hasty move on your part. Usually, if you refuse the upsell of accessories, your "lowest-price-on-the-web" camera will suddenly be on "back order." I got screwed on a JVC cam that way.

Anyone considering purchasing a DVX needs to talk to Rush at EVS. No BS, no pressure, great advice, no gray market cams/scams. And the lowest LEGIT price available.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but potential buyers beware.

Expresscamera...........Wide angle lense, telephoto lense, pro filter kit, tripod, carry case..........i want to return it all......any advice.........I really think that the lense does not work with this camera.....

Repeat, all the accessories are crap. There's nothing pro about it. Expresscamera is a known gray market dealer. They're dirty and deceitful. I would return all of it if you can, camera too. Then get your cam from EVS.

Anyone able to help kyogenwa with advice for returning this stuff? I fear he's going to run into a lot of resistance.

What state are you in Kyo? Your state may provide consumer protection even if the purchase was from another state. Call and tell them you can't afford all this stuff, then if they give you a hard time, tell them the next call they receive will be from your state's consumer protection agency.

I feel for you, and truly hope you can wash your hands of the whole mess. But you may need to be assertive, aggressive, even brutal to get your money back.

thanks for the advise Frizzle Fry.........accessories are.........5 wide angle, 2 time telephoto, 3 piece filter kit, leather bag, tripod, fast charger and 8 hr battery........$1800........Im in Colorado.....just moved here from the Adirondacks in upstate NY.............I had numerouse other issues with him.....ie......getting charged more than what was agreed upon on the phone.....delivery dates not even remotly hit............shipping charges different than what was said...arrogence on the phone.......I wish I had joined this before I bought instead of just timmidly reading posts.......Im sick over this........this purchase is every last penny I have.............Cant live without the camera now because I have to shoot a band in denver 2nite and weddings therafter.....extremely upset because the wrong extra battery was sent so now I have 1 battery for tonights camera with a potential of 3-1/2 hrs of continouse footage to shoot......How much battery life can I expect to get out of the stock battery? Thanks so much guys.....

What did you pay for the entire package?

Like I said, those accessories are CRAP. The only decent telephoto made for the DVX is the Century Optics 1.6x, and it goes for about $800. A decent wide angle is $300 or so.

DO NOT put that crappy glass in front of your Leica lens. DO NOT put any of those shitty filters on, except for maybe the UV filter, to protect the lens.

Any prospective buyers should read this thread carefully. There's a 95% chance you WILL get screwed if you don't buy from an authorized Panasonic dealer! Good ones include EVS and B&H.

Kyo, I don't know what I'd do if I were you. You're in a really tough spot. Did the camera come with Barry's book and Magic Bullet software?

If you payed by credit card I would call them right away. They can hold up payment. Tell them you were scammed. I did it once and didn't have to pay.

Those cheap lenses that are all over ebay are a big hustle. When I called up the company and tried to get details I was met with half answers and a haughty tone of voice, aka thier hustling you.

Unfortunanetley, Century Optics seems to be the only real brand.

Spread the word about these fellas.

So you may have a fully warranteed U.S. camera, which is good. Get the serial number from under the eye piece and send a PM to Jan Crittenden. She'll be able to tell you for sure:

Still you should call and tell your Credit Card company you were scammed, if Expresscameras does not give you a refund for the accessories.

OK, so you need to make sure you have a power supply for your shoot. Also, I'm pretty sure any Panasonic DV camcorder battery will work in the DVX, so perhaps you could pick up a couple of those to get you by.

Good luck!

thank you for all your help. I did call express camera and was met with MAJOR resistance...just like you said........I called my bank.....I am disputing it.......what a nightmare.......I am almost late for my shoot so I will fill everyone in later..........unbelievable......a sharp looking website...good pricing...an automated anwering machine and any old person can seem like a real company.......let my experience be an example to everyone......Just because its the cheapest doesnt meen you should buy it there........

Sometimes you get lucky, but as many of us have learned, if you don't put in the time to research big purchases (especially online) you may regret it. Kyogenwa learned a valuable lesson from this experience, and sometimes it takes something bad happening to us to learn those lessons. However, I think it's better to learn from someone elses, so we can avoid the pain associated with it. There have been many of us on this forum who have learned lessons the hard way. I hope in the future more "newbies" will read a bit more, and not have to go through it themselves. I just feel sick every time I read a post from someone who got scammed. Sucks.

Joe

Hope it all gets worked out as painless as possible dude.

Hey, Fowler, our sigs are from the same movie! Busey was hillarious.

Kyo,. sorry to hear you are having such abad time. In answer to your battery question, standard battery lasts about an hour. So plan any way you have to, including taking your AC adapter with you and using it as much as you can, while keeping battery topped off.

Good luck with all this.
