Just got a new GH1

off of ebay, should be here in a few days.

Got the body only for $840. I plan on getting a 7D as well for work (the studio I work with uses Canons). But I figure a GH1 is a nice backup/sidekick since it has autofocus and the 2x crop factor will give range to adapted canon lenses.

I hope I don't sound dumb, but is there an adapter in existence that communicates/translates the electronics to allow autofocus? I"m assuming no, but just curious. I'm guessing there's not a huge market for this, but those Panny lenses are pricey at 4.0 fstops.

Anyway, on a side note, check out my new site (still building it)

Can't wait to add GH1 footage/stills to it this month - odd to finally have a photo section on the site.

No. The main reason why it's not possible is because the different camera brands each use a different communication protocol its bodies and lenses. There are no simple electronics in existence that can translate from one protocol to another.

ydgmdlu, you have both EOS 7D and GH1. Which one is your favorite?
I can't say. Like I told another guy in a PM, I can't have one without the other and will be not be forced to choose. They complement each other so well because they have such different strengths and weaknesses. But that said, I would prefer to use the 7D on more occasions.

Psynema, which ebay store did you get your GH1 from? Thanks.

no store, an individual was selling the body only and I got it for $840

save about $700 since I don't think a 4.0 lens is worth that much IMO.

Possible wishlist so far is

1. Canon 7D
2. EOS to GH1 adapter
3. Merlin
4. 100mm Macro 2.8 IS L Canon
5. and one of the following - 11-16mm Tokina 2.8 EOS, 17-50mm Tamron VC (IS) 2.8, or Panny OIS 2.8-3.5 14-50mm...I don't know why it's so hard for Panasonic to make a 2.8 zoom all across with OIS...

Ok body just arrived...UPS left it on the doorstep...I'm in the city...scary, but oh well.

OMG I had NO CLUE HOW TINY THIS THING IS....plastic, but at least it feels durable.

Now I just need to get a lens and wait for an adapter then I can try my Asahi 50mm 1.4 on it.

I'd like to get one of those smooth autofocus lenses for steadicam work but my god Panny rapes you up the but for their slow ass lenses, but at least it has a swivel screen. Anyone who's done steadicam work with this please chime in on using 14-50/140mm lens auto vs. a lens without on a merlin/glidecam etc.

I used manual on the XH A1, but of course the DOF is much greater on that.

Does Canon IS not work on the GH1 ?
