Just got a new camera - Sony F35

Agree 100%. My only concern with it is bright daylight. I may still be picking up an EVF down the road, but for everything else, it works great. And for what I do, 10bit 422 is plenty (and way better than the 8bit 420 AVCHD/DLSR footage I've been using previously).

Just to let you know - the Samurai Blade has a really good Waveform monitor - and Focus assist too. It's a great device. Perfect partner to the F35. Best, Sparky

HI! I am Sony F35 owner too! It's incredible camera. And i have many question about "how it's work..." I shot it with Atomos Samurai. Best regards! Vladislav. Moscow, Russia.

I'm on day 4 of a commercial - Sony F35 recording 444 12 bit to the PIX 240 with the upgrade 3.02 firmware for extended dynamic range and hot damn - it looks absolutely incredible. Using Cooke S4 lenses. Couldn't be happier with the system. Thank you again Mac for teaching me about this camera.

aja multiplexer. p tap splitter - it eats up so much juice i have a big brick to power the camera and a little brick to power the p tap. powering teradek, aja multiplexer, pix 240, tv logic monitor - it weighs so much though. goddamn. oh well.

In reference to mount conversions - The glass I currently have now is M42 and is converted to EOS mount from my canon DSLR days. I intend on using this, the T-Mount zooms I bought and originally converted to PL mount, and possibly the new Rokinon Cine lenses. All of these lenses feature a manual aperture ring - is there any reason not to do EOS mount and to go for the Nikon mount?

If I ever step up to cine lenses, I can always put the PL back on, or get the Canon or Zeiss cine lenses in an EOS mount...

I ask because I honestly have never used a nikon mount camera/lens before and I'd rather not learn a bunch of new quirks and ins-and-outs if I don't have to. What do you guys think?

Hey Sparky,
Yeah, I know. They came out with the Blade about a month after I bought the original. So I need to ride this original for a little while- at least through my next short film shoot. I'll upgrade to the Blade probably in the spring, I think. That Hoodman hood looks nifty. I've got the newer Atomos sunshade and it's actually pretty decent- certainly better than the useless little metal hood thing they had that only came out about an inch from the screen. I've found I don't like using an EVF that much when I operate, but I still have one for when I do need it.

EOS flange focal distance is shorter than Nikon, and Nikon is barely on the limit of what can be done with the SOny plate. So no chance of using EOS lenses unless you rework the sony plate quite a lot, which would be possible but probably would end up costing as much as the camera itself. Nikon being one of the longest flange focal distance still lenses, are easier to adapt from PL.

This is why I am currently using the Cinedeck and will upgrade to the Odyssey 7Q, dual link 1.3lbs, the Cinedeck is huge but nice for now.

Hi all! Who knows how can Sony F35 start rec from camera to Atomos Samurai? I have Sony F35 with interface box, and connection by HD SDI (A) to Atomos Samurai. I can't start rec from the camera by rec button, only from Atomos. Thanks.

I haven't found a way to make the camera talk to the Samurai. From what I have found the record signal on the F35 only seems to work with the SRW1 HDCAM SR-tape unit the camera sold with originally. Without the SRW1 boat anchor hooked up to the camera the record button on the F35 is pretty much useless, it seems.

You can't, but that's no big deal when you get used to it.

I downloaded the sample posted by Macgregor way back on the first page, and I am blown away with this camera! I've been researching a camera system to buy into for about 9 months time, and the F35 is now my number 1 choice. I'd also want to put an F/EF mount on it, so it's good to see that it can be done. Thanks to Macgregor and everyone else that has contributed to this thread, it has been most enjoyable and informative to go through

If we all bug ATOMOS there's a chance that they could add it in a future firmware - personally I'd rather them work on unrecorded display LUTs.

Do you think that all problem with firmware of Atomos Samurai? I think that also problem with our Sony F35, they haven't signal for recorders by HD SDI.
