Hi yachacha. Many cinematographers like Roger Deakins are using Alexa and Red to shoot their films. If digital cameras are becoming more popular in making films doesn't this suggest that digital camera images are as good as film?
I shoot with Alexa and Epic on almost every shoot. They don't come close to film. It's just leagues beyond anything any digital camera can produce. That being said I really think Macgregor needs to spend some time with the BMC for himself because unfortunately for the camera and its super low acquisition price, it will primarily be used by people who just don't understand how to use it to its full potential. Don't go by what you've seen on the web. In my opinion, its better than the RED, comparable to the Alexa.
Well, if the Alexa was a super 16 cam with annoying aliasing artifacts.
Buzzkill, lol.
No, but seriously I do think we all know this. I mean, it always comes down to skill. I play piano for example and I know there a tons of people out there that can make a half broken bar piano sound better than I could with a Bosendorfer Grande. It doesn't stop me from wanting one, lol. I know I will sound a hell of a lot better on the Bos.
It's exciting that these cameras are so cheap and could give you a different look than the others (f3, c300, etc) in the price range, isn't it? More choices is always better.
For me, the perfect camera would probably be one where I could leave the grip trucks behind and still get a cinematic image. Low light sensitivity and being able to "light" in post. Being able to design the lighting look you want afterwords. I can do it in still images. The stuff I can do in silver efex to black and white raw photos is just amazing. It really becomes half art and half photography. Are we ever going to get to the point where we don't have to worry about getting it in the can and so can do the actual production for pennies on the dollar?
I read in an forum post searching for the F35 on google "It appears that newer F35 cameras also have access to slog2 too"

Look down to the 2nd post to see the reference. I can't find any other information on this. What are the advantages of SLOG2 over SLOG?
