Macgregor, footage looks awesome. Would love to see it in HD as well. Is this all shot with your Nikon lenses?
Hello everyone,
I'm still lost in the desert, but here is some ungraded footage from this small project I'm shooting in Mauritania:
pw: mauritania
I've been experiencing some extra noise in the footage when shooting in extreme hot locations (up to 45ºC), at first I thought it had to be the F35 but then I thought it could also be introduce by the recorderd becase it was really really hot.
BTW, That custom plate for the hyperdeck looks terrific. I'll dig into that as soon as I'm back.
James, just to make sure I'm doing the right procedure, black shading is done in "custom" mode, but all it seems to do is set all black numbers to 0? Please elaborate. I know you have explained this before, but I'm not sure I'm doing it properly.
Many thanks.
Ye it's true that the shutter closes to blackout the sensor! Very cool.
James, any footy for us from your WW project?
Id love to post some of what I've been doing on various projects but I'm still finding the F35 sweet spots and trying to get more acquainted before I post. I've done some nice stuff, but not keen to show the F35 fam just yet, with some really good eyes here to crit.
After taking a peak inside the Hyperdeck, you need a Torx T10, I discovered there was a small gap of space on both sides of the metal body which would allow small screws without rubbing or damaging the hyperdeck. Please note I drilled holes in the hyperdeck but left the Anton Bauer plate and the IF box connection untouched.
I drilled 8 small holes where the IF box connection would line up with the hyperdeck back plate. I was able to find 6 that lined up with the Anton Bauer plate, but it did require removing the battery which is held in with adhesive. Once the screws were in, I covered the ones that were over the battery with tape to avoid any metal cutting the plastic casing. I found very small screws which had flat heads, and tiny bolts which would fit inside the holes already made in the IF box and the Anton Bauer plate.
Overall it is extremely solid now, I would feel good bringing it on a production. All this requires is tracking down some small specialty screws and nuts, a drill, Torx T10 for the hyperdeck and regular screwdrivers.
I have found the part from sony which is the connector for the IF box to the f35 body, price is only $105. Search for CA JOINT. This could be very useful as a dead mount for any recorder/battery plate without having to take apart the IF box.
Macgregor, would you mind me asking where you got the F35 plate with 15mm rods? I am assuming this is a custom made item by a specific rental house? I have not been able to find another like it. Have you made progress with the KiPro Quad? It seem that a double system of camera, and IF box are required for troubleshooting where your issue is, however I know this is not easy to come by. Perhaps some special line from the camera to the IF box is used in the 12-bit signal that is not normally used. The pins between the IF box and the F35 mount could be a possible weak point, also the ribbon cables inside are another place damage could easily occur if opened and handled incorrectly. Although a replacement IF box is an outrageous price, tracking down the broken component might be worthwhile.

That is nice. I'm guessing you're not using a portable slider for the tracking shots?
Awesome. The only giveaway is the lack of "film grain" otherwise its very film like.
Cut together a movie promo for a client the other day. Was very impressed by the footage. Thought to myself it had to have been shot on film. Shocked, but not completely surprised when I found on IMBD that it was shot with the F35. Not convinced, found some behind the scenes shots from the set of the movie. Sure enough, there were pictures of the F35 on a steadicam. I've attached some clips from the film. Maybe you guys aren't as easily fooled, but I was completely convinced this movie was shot on film.
