Timur, (and Mac)
Got my Pix240 and multiplexer so doing some shooting today with the two --444 here I come!
Had a bit of a hitch with the multiplexer since it doesn't send SDI flags 444, etc. Got it figured out now.
Also, going to rig a remote trigger, so I can easily start/stop if head planted into the viewfinder.

Timur, for test shoots, too bad my wife won't cooperate like your lovely lady. (my daughter will at times).
Maybe I'll see if I can get some locals to cooperate and I'll make my own Amish Mafia. :kali:

also please make sure to use the HD SDI ports out the interface box, not the monitor out HD SDI on the camera (maybe you knew that)

Hello team, quick question for you all. Can I use the GAIN DROP option of -9DB and -18DB as a type of ND filter, i.e reducing the light coming in - or would this not work and cause other problems? Thanks, Sparky

I didn't know that, what is the difference please? Just changed monitor feed to the interface box sdi out and the picture went green...must have a play with the menus..

I believe if you want to use dual link you MUST use the interface box. And in order to get 444 you have to use dual link.
If you're recording 10bit 422, I didn't see any difference between the monitor out and the outputs in the interface box.

Hello again, what is the difference (if any) between the signal coming out of the HD SDI out sockets on the camera body - and the two on the interface box? Had a nice image on my monitor coming from the body's sdi ports but now I can't get a proper picture from the interface socket since I tried that (just a very green picture) - can't seem to find any reference to it in the menu either. Thanks.

In what mode are you using the camera? In CineEI mode gain cannot be changed anyway.
Lowering the gain usually results in highlights clipping earlier, therefore you don't want to it.

Thanks you answered just as I posted the question , sorry.

Sorry MAC, I had it in Cine - not CineEI. Just switched. Thanks for your patience.

Sorry to ask you a silly question BUT here I go: what's the difference between the cameras Cine mode and CineEI mode please? Thanks, Sparky

Open question:
have you guys been playing with the SMEAR REDUCER?
What downsides have you found when leaving it ON all the time?

I read in the manual that it can help reduce vertical smear with strong backlight into CCD, but I haven't had a chance to test it. Maybe it turns the CCD into a line scanning CMOS mode ;) (kidding)

Apparently with the dual link out the IF box, the 444 is split by the two HD SDI ports with something like one port doing 4:2:0 and the other port doing 0:2:4, combined making 4:4:4.
So they work in tandem.
I saw when the guys were connecting the dual link 444 to a 4:4:4 monitor, with one port it was green until he hooked up the 2nd port and fiddled with something until the colour came back into sync. But BOY was it a tasty image I had before me. Really blew me away.

Not good news.

Surely we haven't ruled out the Gemini? I'm gonna have one next week and will do the neccesary tests to confirm the results, but it should work at 10bit 444 50P.
Mac, when you tested the Gemini, did u use the dual link with both ports going through a high grade short HD bnc cable with all settings on both sides correct? But those damn huge file sizes :( why don't they just implement the pro res hQ 444 codec already. Convergent keep bitching about getting apple to approve the use of pro res, but yet most other recorders have pro res implemented. I believe those avid dnx hd codecs do come in higher bits and 444 but not on the Gemini yet?
no clear winner here...

FYI- F35 owners, My kit came with an sr-1 and sr-pc1 in the package both of which I dont think ill use, if anyone needs them to record to tape or get over cranking, let me know and ill sell them to you cheap. Thanks.
