Just got a new camera - Sony F35

About the fan, yes there are a few settings you can choose. Yes they work without the SRW1.
Now, I've shot in small interiors and never had an issue with the fan being too loud. It's not like the fan in the red one. It's actually very quiet.

I guess this is different for every one and depends on the user. I have read several DPs complaining that even at the minimum setting it's pretty loud. I think I just read something the other day in one of my older ASC Mags issues. It may have been from Harry Brown, don't remember. If the minimum setting was really quiet enough, there would be no need for the fan to turn itself off when the the camera starts rolling, as is does when you have a recognizable deck attached. I see this as a minor disadvantage to recording with a non authorized Sony recorder such as the Hyperdeck or Samurai. Even if you could manually turn the fan off every time before you roll (which it seems you can't), it would still be a drag as compared to just pushing "run" and have the camera automatically doing it for you. Not to mention that forgetting to turn it back on could be bad for the camera. Which brings me to another point. Even if you consider the slowest fan setting to be quiet enough, having the fun constantly running on low may be also be bad for the camera. What if you are shooting dialog in a very hot day? I believe if the fan was on some sort of auto (which I think is an available option. At least it should) the camera would boost it as needed and just shut if off when the camera is rolling, if you use a Sony authorized recorder. This in my opinion is another "small" thing to consider.

No headphone jack in the camera.

This is what I seem to remember.

This is a digital film camera. That's like asking if your brand new Porsche 911 turbo S includes a net in the trunck for your dog... XD

Absolutely! Which is why I keep saying that it's not realistic to just pretend that shooting with a F35 is as easy or the same as shooting with something like a F3 and it's just a matter of getting the parts. This is an illusion. It's one thing to shoot random stuff around. It's another to fit the camera into a production workflow for serious production. The F35 is a different beast and dictates a different workflow!

The F35 is a fantastic camera and I agree that it produces better footage than any 1080p camera in the market now and even bests the RED in it's images apart from resolution. But it's a film production camera and needs to be treated as such. If you can treat it as such and afford all the extra costs that come with that, then you will be extremely happy with it. If not, you may not get all the camera has to offer, in which case you have to ask yourself if you wouldn't be just better off with a F3.

The Dtap connector is in the battery itself. Although I've seen V-mount battery plates with D-tap outputs.

I don't record audio. The sound guy records the audio. Usually they use the tascam DR100.

Joined the club here. F-35 added to the arsenal as of today. Will post pix and footage ASAP! Thanks McGregor for the inspiration! Will make a great partner to the F3.
As for fan noise, it's VERY minimal compared to Epic. (not even in the same arena!)

Does the F35 have a 3G-SDI output port? Or is it dual-link HD-SDI only? Just wondering whether you could capture the 12-bit 4:4:4 signal onto a PIX240 recorder.

So have I! Its being shipped today from the states! All thanks to McGregor too! Had no plans at all to purchase any new gear for a while until I stumbled onto MAC's thread! Will share images when I have it set up.

And by the way, does anybody in this thread who bought a F35 also have a F3? It would be very interesting to see a nice comparison between the 2 cameras in s-log, just for kicks. :)

I have an F3 as well and am looking forward to doing some comparisions. Told my wife my F35 was a 'personal project' for 2013!

Congratulations, both of you!
Mine is at Sony's service centre in Wales at the moment. It got quite badly damaged during transit, but I hope to have it up and running soon :)
Are you going to change the mount, or are you running PL?

Heck! What happened? Sorry to hear that.

It would be interesting to see the areas each other wins. I know the F3 will be better and cleaner in low light and that the F35 wont have rolling shutter problems. But the F3 in S-log probably has more dynamic range than the F35 in S-log. But the F35 may handle the highlights better. Although in S-log this is not much of an issue. Another thing interesting to compare would be sharpness, taken with same lens and T-stop of course.
It's always interesting to see how technology advances. The EX1/EX3 pretty much beats the crap out of the old F900 (besides what concerns the 2/3" CCD) and it came out a short 5 years after it costing nearly 1/15th of what the F900 camera head alone used to cost.

Heck! What happened? Sorry to hear that.

A lever at the rear of the camera has broken off, and an internal part has loosened and is sliding around inside. It was very well packaged, but my guess is the damage either happened as a result of a particularly big fall or during some kind of border inspection.
