just finished our first t2i full length music video...

hey gang,

thought I'd get some criticism from folks who really know whats up and that is the dvxuser forum. i had been shooting dvx for a year and i do miss it, but my gawd that little 550 is purty.

my notes on it:
the original plan for this video was to cut between this red shed performance, and this silly ass go kart footage we got of the band tearing up the track (promo was cut with that stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgRuFTDG0Tg)
my editor / co-director didn't think the two cut well together, so he's going to do a full length japanese manga-type vid for the karts to come.
as for the video itself, the band played the song about 8 times, with all 9 of us men stuffed in a sweaty shed in Texas in July. (& i got a tagger buddy to paint up the back to add to the atmosphere.)
we had two t2i's so we got 16 full takes, mostly on 50mm 1.8's and shoulder rigs, except for a few sweeping pans across the band shot with the 18-135mm on a tripod. the song is a little intense and i'm not a HUGE fan of scream-y type shi* but they do give off a nirvana-esque vibe which is why i like them. (also i've since bought a macro 2.5 50mm (broke the 1.8) because you can see the singer come fwd out of focus a few times... love the mac but you do lose a bunch of light with it.)

thanks for watching and look forward to feedback. :)

I am new to this forum because of this post! Think it's a shame you haven't god any comments, because it is really well produced! Nice track and overall nice video, congrats

Well the Music Video is very basic and needs a lot of work. No story, Script, or anything interesting but some guy screaming in your face for 4 minutes? Also imo 50mm lens does not work with there are a group of people. Not even one single wide shot in the whole video. White Balance seems off too. Sorry but the video is seriously lacking.....

If your not going to give the audience a basic story at least give us more shots, more location, more angles, more views, + you need to do a better job on color correcting as this video looks like it wasn't touched.

Let's remember that we all started out somewhere.... this OP says that this is his first attempt at a Music Video. IMO we need to "suggest" ways to improve and give tips and techniques to achieve said results. To that effect I agree that the video does lack shot variety. Try different lenses and wide shots. with Music videos there is no formula, just alot of experimentation. So don't be shy to make up your own style....
