Just Curious

As many as we can get :) - Right now I have pre-orders in for (5) bodies, (1) 300mm prime and (5) zooms. I also plan on getting at least (5) more bodies ASAP.

We plan on becoming the premiere Red rental, repair and (potentially, if availble) sales/accessory company. I even bought www.RedRental.com in addition to a variety of other Red-related domain names that I hope to make use of as informational sites, etc.

Nice; I plan on renting 3 or 4 for a feature I'm shooting, so I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't clean you guys out of REDs for 5 or 6 weeks.

Shouldn't be a problem. FYI, as soon as we get more specifics on release dates, pricing, etc (which, if I remember correctly, may happen on Nov. 1), we'll start taking tentative reservations that will of course be based on availability.

thats good news eric. i have a reserve for the body and lenses, have heard of the possibility of getting a set of nikon still lenses, but would prefer to rent till the zoom came out. will you also rent nikon still primes. I just need to get by and would prefer not paying the 100 to 200 per day cine prime rates. if you will supply the nikon still primes- do you have a rental rate worked out already?

We currently rent Nikon primes in addition to our Cine lenses. Often they are used with our Mini35 or M35 setups. I'm not sure if there's a mount announced for them for the Red yet, but when/if there is, we'll rent them for the Red as well.

Hey Eric I tried emailing you a month ago about this but never got a reply so I'll try here:

What's your policy on shipping? I'm not in the LA area so I would need to have it shipped:

You say online that you pay for travel days, but what about shipping days? Does that mean you only pay for one day of travel, i.e. overnight shipping? How much does overnight for 20 pounds of gear cost? Would it be cheaper to buy a round trip ticket and pick it up myself? :)

Sorry we didn't get your email. Sometimes they end up in the SPAM catcher on accident. Anyway, at very least, we do give a free day for shipping... And we alot more time the longer your rental goes out for.

If you're shooting something that sends our gear out for a few weeks or more, you generally don't see any financial impact from shipping. We can send larger rental packages in a variety of ways to make it worthwhile to have your package shipped. Of course, you're always welcome to fly out and check out the gear at our office :)

We've worked out just about all of the issues you might worry about with shipping rentals. However, if you wanted to rent something for just ONE day, that's usually the only time you'll end up running into significant costs due to shipping.

just to clear up a rumor going around.. Nov.1st is not the day that pricing or release dates are announced.. November 1st is just the day after reservations close.

I think the "November 1st" discussion stems from this post by Jim, who stated that,

You can expect a fairly comprehensive and easy to understand explanation of REDCODE RAW and REDCINE beginning November 1st. You can also expect to see prototypes that most closely approximate the final camera and RAIL/CAGE program at that time. Specs for the 18-85mm zoom will also be posted at that time, including MTF charts. The same goes for the 300mm.

So while this has nothing to do with pricing or release dates (people's memories get mangled after a month), :-P there is great anticipation by many users of the comprehensive new details to be delivered at this time.

Well, maybe "specs" includes price and release dates! :D

And maybe "comprehensive and easy to understand explanation" will explain what the price will be, and the when the release dates will be.
