Well this broke college student just bought himself a d90. I just placed the order on B&H. Bought the camera body for $840 and the Nikon 50mm f1.8D lens for $110. Also swooped on the Nikon Lens hood, a Tiffen UV filter, extra battery, and an 8 GB scandisk.

I don't even have a cpu that can edit with this thing or an editing system or anything, but oh well. I got lucky playing poker tonight so I said screw it, you only live once. :) I'm sure I can find something at my college that will work with the editing. I already have a music video planned to a song I did. Once I get my d90 I will post some good amatuer footage for you all. :)

My fault, I'm just really excited and glad to be joining the d90 club. :)

hehe, cool man. I'm getting mine next week. And i pimped out my kids for a macbook pro. I can't even watch the D90 on vimeo with my powerbook. For all I know the D90 could look like absolute shite!

You just need to shack up with some girly who has an iMac and you're set. That's how I ended up with two kid's........mb scratch that idea.

I've been taking down detailed notes of all the tricks/workarounds that I've learned from these guys and I'm gonna post the "will do sexual favors for a D90 indie filmmakers guide" in a few weeks once I've had some time to play with it.

just how many kids do you have available to pimp out?
Not nearly enough, I better get cracking. The government here gives us $5000 for every newborn and I could use some faster nikon primes.....

We're going to be homeless for a month because I just bought 5 lenses, a D90, shoulder rig, and macbook pro......how's that for dedication.

Melina: How can you do this? You're a mutant.
Benny: I needed the money. I got four kids to feed.
Douglas Quaid: What happened to number five?
Benny: Aw, ****, man! You got me. I ain't even married.

Squig, I really hope for your sake the d90 turns out to be all it is for you because you seem to be heavily investing and seem to have some grand ideas for a film using it. I've sure gotten some great footage for it but like most people said, even in a 'controlled' environment making a short with this guy is going to be difficult. I'm creating a promo video at the moment we are speaking and trying to overcome the d90s limitations with good editing and cutting it with footage from other cams. anyway congrats on the purchases guys, at any rate you have an AWESOME dslr for the price as ive come to see my camera!

Compared to what I spent on my recording studio this thing is peanuts. I was exagerrating the homeless bit. I own my home but we're going to be moving into the city to make the film and are staying with friends until we find a place.

If it looks like 16mm I'll be more than happy. It's the story that counts.

There is very little local content shot here so recouping on my investment won't be a problem. But it's not about the money, even if i blew all the money I would consider it well spent. I think it was Melvin Van Peebles who said the way to learn how to make a film is to make a film......and it's not like film camera's aren't temperamental. I see the D90 as the easier way to do it.

If it wasn't difficult it wouldn't be any fun.

...and it's not like film camera's aren't temperamental..

huh? Film cameras are probably the most reliable way of capturing images existent.

Well... at least they let you control aperture and shutter manually, and don't change the ISO as fast... :)

What I meant is they're bulky, expensive, need an army to operate, and you can't just dump your footage into a mac and cut it. The D90 is something I can tackle on my own........with a bit of DVX user handholding.

ah, okay... but really, they are simpler than they look. Just a bit heavy for our standards and REALLY expensive... :D
