Just bought a Hyperdeck Shuttle 2

So I just bought a hyperdeck Shuttle 2. This is a rundown of everything I already own and everything I ordered or plan to order. I'd like to know if there is anything else I need.

What I ordered:
Hyperdeck Shuttle 2
Hyperdeck Shuttle cheese plate
2 Kingston 128 V100 SSD's (recommended by Blackmagic. Hard to find, but I found 2)
D-Tap to Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 cable

What I already own:
V-Mount battery plate
2 Batteries4Broadcast 160Wh V-Mount batteries

What I still need:
Custom made 12" right angle DIN 1.0/2.3 to male BNC (from Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 to AF100)
Custom made 24" right angle DIN 1.0/2.3 to male BNC (from Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 my SmallHD DP6 monitor)

Am I missing anything?

I use the Berkey Ultralight Rail Block on the edge of the Hyperdeck cheese plate to mount it vertically. Fits perfectly.
I got my DIN 1.0/2.3 cables from Markertek. Several length choices available. Cable is very thin which is great.

Thanks Stephen. I was taking a wild guess at whether it would work, sounds like I was right. As for the cables, I'm having Cinequipt (the local rental house) make them for me.

BTW, I have the Switronix cable (from B&H) and the D-Tap connector is not a great fit for the IDX plate I'm using, but with a little sanding on the edges it's OK. If there's something better around I'd use that instead.

how do you like it so far? im quite tempted by it, does it output both sdi and hdmi together regardless of which is inputting? (if it does indeed act as an hdmi to SDI converter and vice versa im running to b&h with bells on)

Yes, both HDMI and SDI outputs are active regardless of input type. Amazing for the price.

does it automatically record when you press record on the camera? I was told by a reseller that it doesn't but have heard conflicting reports.

Does anyone know a good place to get some sort of SSD case? I know Blackmagic makes some but I can only find them sold in packs of 90 here in the US. I found them sold individually in Australia, but they don't ship to the US.

Update: Found and ordered these.

You do have to manually hit it's record button. And no, there is no data about the device displayed on the screen. The record light does start blinking when you get low on SSD space, and there are a series of LED's indicating the state of the battery.

There is a DISP button they suggest in the manual will give this information in the future, but at this point it does nothing.

That's a shame - they'd sell a bucketload if it could roll on timecode. I'm kind of tempted to pick one up anyway, will check it out at BVE and see what other goodies may be there.

TC, roll record, and have it output some useful info on the passthrough connections, all seems like it should be able to be done through firmware

The 10Gb per minute figure is for uncompressed recording, available on both versions. The Shuttle 2 can also record in compressed DNxHD format. Other than that, I understand all other features/limitations are the same.

StephenM do you have the original Hyperdeck Shuttle or the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2?

I have had a Shuttle 1 for some time. Probably will stay with it unless other features appear only on the Shuttle 2. The large uncompressed files are not an issue the way I work.

I've received one SSD already. According to the tracking numbers, the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 and the second SSD are out for delivery. They should arrive here late afternoon and I'll be testing tonight.

The Shuttle 2 can also record in compressed DNxHD format.

Any news on whether these Shuttle 2 DNxHD files can be opened by non-AVID NLEs ?

Everything I've read about so far states that right now the files can only be opened on an AVID system. ( the Shuttle 2 DNxHD files might not be 100 percent legal for the format )

I am hoping that this DNxHD compatibility issue is fixed with a firmware update. ( I edit with Vegas and Premiere )
