"I Understand You"

Great music video...wrong fest.
(and this takes nothing away from the beautiful images and editing)

Well that was shot well! I thought that you should have just stayed with the guy instead of cutting back to the girl continuously. The dramatic look of the night plus the verses of the song would have been way better I think.

Was this intended to be a music video? I'm not sure if I missed it but what was lost? Not meaning to be a smart-A, I'm just wondering. Until the first slow-mo shot I thought it was red so good job on that!

music video? Movie was named after the song... no audio... the composition/tone of the song had absolutely nothing to do with the movie. I guess the lyrics had soemthing to do with it? Idk maybe i shoulda just been listening to the lyrics? Didn't understand who was the guy in the end it looked like something happened there. Maybe i'm dense. But it definetally had some sort of direction there, I could follow it had a narrative. Still though ditch that song add audio and put a score behind it then I think I would have been way more immersed in the movie AS A NARRATIVE. Felt like I was watching MTV though.

I think the wardrobe did indeed work with the characters and scenario. Nice to see an adorable girl in a Sunday dress pull a shot gun! I think it's great!!

Makes me think twice about my next robbery!

I'm guessing the guy cased the place, assumed it/she was an easy target.

Liked the overall pace, the int. and ext. dance of shots.

I'd like to see more music videos like this, instead of the gag-me ego rides.

aw

I liked this one. Quite a lot. The images were great, telling the story in an interesting way.

Never seen a convenience store clerk looking like that. Works in an idealized world, but not the real one.

SPOILER

I was going to hate this movie if she didn't turn the tables on him. I'm just sick of movies about hot women being victimized/murdered/whatever. But the twist made me like this. Glad she got to be a badass.

Don't know why he took his mask off. Did she know him? That was unclear.

In some ways I liked the music, the irony of it. But perhaps you could've mixed in some nat sounds. They're doing that a lot in music videos these days, and it would've made it more short film like.

Also, I wish there was more of a Loss theme here. I read your explanation, but I'm not sure that losing comes across clearly when the situation doesn't really seem win/lose. Watching a football team lose, I would've gotten the theme. Here, not so much.

Great images and editing... but who are these characters and the loss requires me to look for an explanation. There wasn't really enough atmosphere or enough about the plot, felt like a music video.

It was a music video! Any genre is acceptable for DVX fests. Just because nobody ever does a music video, doesn't mean it isn't acceptable.
-and the mods felt it fit the theme well enough, so there

Beautifully shot and if it's a music video, it works. I think I get what they were going for with the song. It does have a narrative persay, just not a concise ending. I got the feeling that maybe they knew each other. Anyway, it was a good looking video. Thanks for sharing!

Fine, single me out. I see how it is :)

It's LATE, but I made a commitment to watch, rate, and comment on all the films before nights end. At this point, I've only got time to watch & rate, so I'm simply letting you know I've done so for yours.

If you'd like a specific review of your film, please just PM me to catch my attention, and I'd be glad to come back here & post a review. :)

Just have to say that this song has been stuck in my head for two days.

It's not my usual thing, but it's catchy.

Great photography and editing, I enjoyed the imagery quite a bit. I think the actress gives off Jana-quality images.

I liked the song but didn't like that it ended and we hear traffic noise for the credits, and the only other nitpick I have is that you fade at the last shot, I would have preferred a sharp cut.

Nice work!

I like the mood and the score of the film. The film has a nice rythmn. I always aks myself during the film, if it is more serious, more humorous or only a little bit grotesque - at least because the main actress appeared in her sleeping dress at work. I didn't understand really the end. Did he only lost his face or the 'game' or his life?
Above all - it is always a pleasure to see a work of the 'Survivals'

Hey everybody,

Just wanted to apologize for being away from the threads so much this time around. The last couple weeks were kinda hectic, but I guess that's not really an excuse.
I hope to enter QuestFest and I plan to be on the boards much more.
Anyway thank you all for the comments and for watching!

Also, some people were asking about the music, as this was a music video.

"I Understand You" was written and performed by Chris Nelson (who also starred in this).

The song is from a new EP he's working on. It looks like it will be finished within the next month or two. We shot this video at the same time as another music video for one of his other songs. I'll be tightening up the edits on both over the next week or two and then I'll try to post them on the forum.

In the meantime, if you're interested in his music (you should be), you can find one of his projects at:
myspace.com/vonnelsonmusic or vonnelson.com

Or you can find one of his other projects - The Indian Givers - on iTunes here:

If you had taken the music out (which wasn't too bad but I wasn't feeling it) and put some movie audio on this just for loss fest it could have been a good entry.
Actually this music video had no bussiness here in the first palce.

This particular board was for film entries for loss fest not for music videos.

But in any case, this music video (posible entry) was (supposedly entered) as demonstrating a lost.
The fest was not about a lost, but rather a loss.

Oh yeah and just for the record. About the girl in the dress.... I did not have a problem at all with what she was wearing because at first impression the very first thing I thought was..... "Oh she must be the owner and all employees left and she's closing down"

Now what's also shocking to me was when you said there were no adapters or lenses used! I noticed that.

I have to say....nice job on that, YOU ARE A BEAST! because as you have already been told on here... the visuals were great!

and last... The nice looking poster tricked me into watching it, so good job on that as well. Didn't see any scenes with large planes in it :) but is cool I accept that I was tricked into watching it just by the airplane on the poster. All in all.... Nice work!:nads:

LUIS- You're 'criticisms' are 100% wrong.
If you're so concerned with the Loss fest rules, maybe you should take a look at the rules for giving criticisms.
It's not up to you to decide what qualifies as a LossFest entry, and what part of ANY GENRE don't you understand?!?!?!?!
I think I speak for most everyone here when I say that your asinine comments like only writing, "I didn't like it", and "...actually had no business here", are both insulting and not constructive or helpful in any way, and would better be kept to yourself unless you only wish to make enemies here. :nads:
