Hi all,
I just received this Hoya CPL polarizing filter but I can hardly see any difference when I turn the lens.
Shouldn't I notice a strong difference? Is it defective?

Thanks for your advice

Thanks for the quick replies.
It's my first polarizer. I just tried it on the sky and it doesn't make it any bluer.
I'm looking at some video reviews where the filter is held in front of a computer screen and when turned the screen goes dark. Mine doesn't do that at all, it just turns slightly yellowish. I'm changing it.

lol, that's not what a polarizer is supposed to do... You are probably looking for a Nd Filter. Polarizer is used for unwanted reflections ( glass, water, etc. )

A polerizer will make the sky bluer, but you need to be standing 90 degrees to the sun to have the biggest impact on the color of the sky. Stand with the sun on your right or left and then turn the polerizer.

I was talking about the computer screen part, regardless if something is not working the way you want it too, just return it.

Well this guy seems to be doing exactly that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTYRSHgxUko&feature=related
Anyway, regardless of the effect on the sky, I should be noticing some difference when I turn the ring, whereas here I hardly see any difference at all.

Maybe you should just return the camera - it might be a camera problem - or return the operator - that could be it.

What exactly are you trying to achieve, ultimately that is the correct question we as the "forums" are asking you? What is the purpose of having a filter go black indoors? I can see the benefit of a blue sky , but I don't understand what else you want your filter to do.....
I just bought this polarizing filter to be able to shoot outdoor with a lot of sunshine and capture the blue of the sky and get some definition in the clouds.
Since the filter isn't doing at all what I expected (from what I saw on various videos online) I'm trying to figure out if my product is in fact defective.
But since I was just looking for advice I will do without your disparaging comments, thanks.

PS @ Lenilnapi: 1. Yes I am a beginner
2. Go fxxx yourself ;-)
