Pretty clean:

We've had a 200, and a 150.

We now have a 170 and a HMC40.

So far, we are impressed with the 40.

Not near the control or build finish to the 150 or 170, but this little gem takes some pretty nice footage.

It's rainy today, but I'm going to go tomorrow and try to grab some good footage

It could.

I'm going to do some testing in some low light situations this week, and also some good natural light outdoors.

It looks to be a decent B roll cam. Alot of electronic switches, rather than physical ones such as you find on the 150/170.

Light and to be honest, a fun cam if you know what I mean.

Can you show us a pick of your holding it or it next to your 170? The images online don't let me get a feel for it's size. Is it bigger or smaller than the jvc hm100?

Ever since August 31 (when HMC40 started shipping), I've been watching the internet for someone to try out this little Panny and tell us about it. You're one of the first! Thanks. Did you get the HMC40 with the XLR adapter? If so, how's the sound quality? I'm looking forward to hear about how it performs under low lighting conditions too. I am very close to purchase an HMC150, but want to see how it's little brother performs. Keep us posted!

My guess, and Barry can correct me on this, is that the full raster 1/4 inch sensors somewhat equalize the pixel shifting with the 3-CCD on the 170.

This doesn't account for the lower performance in low light for the 40, but it adds to a sharper picture in good light.

I'm not Barry Green, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express . . .

Did not get the XLR adapter.

We intended to use this as a B roll.

That being said, the 40 has a decent quality on board mic and the sound is surprisingly acceptable.

Hey thanks a lot for that pic David! That really gives me a feel for the size, I want to get my hands on one of these asap, it's the exact size I was looking for.
