Just a bit of fun...
Below are two VidCaps, one is 24p and the other is 25i. One pic was taken using a DVX100a and the other using a PD150. The pictures were taken on different nights and using different lighting setups. (Different short films actually)
No colour balancing or other changes have been made to these images.

Guess which is which...

I'm gonna say the first is the DVX, and the second the PD150 ?

What did I win, what did i win !!!???

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

No Idea honestly. However, I'm confused. Why do you have an NTSC DVX100a and a PAL PD150? (ie. 24P (NTSC) and 25i (PAL). Did you mean 25P? IF you want to do a true comparison, you can do one of two things. Post a grab with motion in it, or post a short moving clip. Then if you can't tell which one is which, you definatly have something there.

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

I'd also have to go with the top being the dvx. But I am intrigued by the same question as scharky.

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

Sorry It should read 25p, not 24p as in the email above. Also this is not meant to be a comparison but more so to see if people can pic the difference between the cameras. Having used both extensively it is obvious to me and I was curious if it is as obvious to others.

The top is HI8 and the bottom is VHS-C. Am I right? Kidding...

I say the DVX is the 1st one and the other is PD150. Then agian this could be a trick question, both could be the PD150. You better be giving out prizes to the winners! ;)

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

would be better if the scenes were somewhat the same

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

how can you record prog on the PD150? I Have one and didn't no you could do that. i always have to put up with 60i >:(

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

Mike, it was explained to you at least twice that the PD150 will shoot 15p. However, in this case, what makes you think any progressive mode on the PD150 comes into play?

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

I would say the bottom one is the PD. Has that annoying sharpness that always gives away video. The DVX has that too, at times, but it tends to mix the colors a bit better.

However, I'm in agreement that it would help if the scenes looked similar. The lower one could be a DVX, but with just loads of light on the talent.

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

It's a PAL Camera Danny and he was referring to the 24p mention of the DVX settings.

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

Sonys tend toward the blue. There's a blue chroma edge along the girl's shirt in the bottom picture. I think it's the Sony.

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

Ill go against the grain and say its the bottom one that is the DVX. Both look very nice however. The first one appears DVX'ish in terms of color (gamma) but I dont know....

Im a gambling man.

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

hmm....im goin with the bottom one as dvx...something about the grain on the backwall looks familier...

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

can you turn the croma off? also i shoot 60i and the guy said he shot 25i? Is that what the pal verson shoots off of?

Re: Just a bit of fun... Guess the picture

P.S David i Knew About 15p But Its Total Crap. It Has A wierd strobe effect.

I think The Top Is The PD150 Bottom DVx100a :)
