The first shot which had almost 3kw of light in the setup has some movement but little evidence of interlace lines indicating that it could have been shot using progressive mode. The colouring in the first shoot looks a little more film like and as other people have pointed out not as hard.
The second shot has the blue chroma edge and the hardness to the image that gives it that typical video look of the PD170 camera.
The first clip was shot using a DVX100ae (PAL) on cinemode (progressive) 25P, f2, 1/60
The second shot was using a PD170 (PAL, interlaced, 25i, ~f2 1/60
The second shot was lit using a 150 watt hmi light from the outside with a 1/2ct blue gell and a redhead with a 2ND filter from the inside.
I've actually been thinking about this issue a lot lately and I'm not fully convinced that soft=film. While discussing some of Disjectas work the topic of sharpness came up and he pointed out (rightly so) that film transfered to digital is quite sharp. I agreed with this but I still felt that there was something about video that made it stick out as being so "sharp." I'm beginning to think more and more that what we are percieving as a sharpness issue is in reality a DOF issue. We are seeing *too much* sharply and as opposed to the selective sharpness of film. I'm almost convinced that this is what makes the difference.

amen...i have been fighting that arguement for ever.

Interestingly, most people got it right.
