Jon Jacob Schmidt - by Hoz

Nice lighting! Did you use a bounce board for this shot?

BTW, you should link to this thread in your signature.

thanks! i actually didnt need a bounce board, it just worked out.

i should look this up, but how does one link a thread to a signature?

On the top-right there's a User CP link. Click on that and go to "Edit my signature". And then add an image, or just a piece of text linked to this thread. It'll generate visibility.

The poster has a cool look to it. Like the idea of using that as the title too.

Assume Jingleheimer was left out for copyright reasons? Cool idea.

Another first review!

This had a real old school Twilight Zone fee to it. I really liked that. I also loved all the different locations. Great work on that. Framing was pretty good, just maybe shake things up with a little more variety in your shots.

It was a little washed out and the audio was a tad low in spots.

I loved the story and it was pretty creepy in spots. Nice work on that.
Two movies this fest! Next time I bet if you put everything you have into one movie that you will be twice a good. Not really a criticism, just a suggestion.
I did really enjoy this.

Cheers,

Mike

Audio is real low at times.

I think you lingered too long in the bedroom scene at the beginning.

It had just the right amount of humor to it to contrast the seriousness of the piece.
I really got the feel of the Twilightzone in this one, great job.

thanks for the comments! as for the washed out looks, i think i needed to better light some of the living room scenes.

my audio needs work. ugh. i need to get better at that.

there is a strong reason i did two movies, but i think you are right, i nearly ran out of time to get both of them in and i regret some of things i didn't get to fix...

as for lingering, yeah, looking back at it, i can totally see your point here, i think i did, i tried to get cute with the dialogue to set it up, but really, i got 6 minutes! move on! i should've left more time for the running around, i didn't want to cut any of that and i did. i think i may have cut the wrong things.

thanks for the comments!

Really good effort on a fellow 'two-filmer'. I don't read other comments...so if they repeat, you know it's something to work on. Audio needs work. I felt the story was weak...and why didn't you title the film after his full name? Some of the camera work was a little off (framing) for my taste. Congrats on getting two films done!

I enjoyed this one quite a lot. A very simple clever story with so many comical sides. I love the irony in it and I had a amused smile on my face at the end when the girl hummed the song! Why did you choose a german name? Are german people successful for you? :Drogar-Love(DBG)::Drogar-Love(DBG)::Drogar-Love(DBG):

 Thanks. I really needed that song in my head. All week. :dankk2:

Tech issues aside, great concept. Nice seeing other multi-film makers out there :)

thanks for the words! real glad you liked it! and yes, in fact, i do know a successful German, my mom! Her maiden name is Reinel though, not Schmidt either.

Oh, Zazacast, i didnt want to name the movie with Jingleheimer in it because i didn't want it to be completely obvious, although i guess it already is, and because the guy's name is Jon Jacob Schmidt. no other reason.

just think about editing this thing for as long as i did! i truly hate this song!

I can only thank Leandro Gardini enough for bringing in a score to work along side of it! i really loved how he created a score that seemed to hop along with Jon. I don't have a clue as to how he did that! will leave reviews for you too! thanks for commenting and congrats on submitting two films as well.

Good job on getting two films made we know how stressful it can be. I laughed pretty hard at this one. I especially liked the choir as it started signing the song. My only concern is how many people will have that awful song stuck in their heads for weeks.

I remember when Leandro scored my first movie! Robin The Spy, for SpyFest.
He did an amazing job. It was very nice of him to help out a first timer and I've never forgotten it. Great score, very professional.

He did a great job here once again.

Cheers,

Mike

glad you liked it. it was fun working with the choir, they were so cool to work on this.

before we filmed that night, i sat back and watched Chuck ( the choir director, and the man who bumbled and stumbled towards Jon Jacob with the purple shirt on - damn i thought he really nailed that! ) practice with his people. I learned a lot from watching him direct. He had such confidence in where he wanted to take his crew. they worked for 3 hours without a single break or complaint. such dedication and respect for each other. i was real lucky to be able to work with them. that and if i was going to play this song over and over again, i figured i'd better try and get the best people to sing it! the better to entrench all of you with it, ha!
