Joe Dono Joseph M. Dono (Scam-Artist) Strikes again!

Nothing like a court case to "ruin the honeymoon". The picture has me hoping it's a criminal offense. Good luck.

I'm not saying do anything crazy, but you got his drivers license, you know where he lives... go get your camera back.

Seriously a guy posted this same story a while back when he said he had a PA return a letus or something like that and he never did. You should really just go there and GET your stuff back.

If I was in Orlando I'd come with!

Well, I decided to start messaging all of the Orlando and Tampa based production houses along with hitting up the facebook and twitter pages of local film festivals to help bring awareness to the situation. I also messaged several of my former instructors at Full Sail to please notify the faculty and staff of Joe Dono to help prevent anyone else from being a victim.

I will also be visiting my hometown, Spring Hill, which is also Joe's hometown and will be plastering hundreds WANTED posters all over town. The posters will stay in circulation until either justice is served or his reputation is complete destroyed. We are offering a minimum of a $300 reward to who ever leads us to the recovery of the equipment.

I feel badly for the young lady, unless she is aware or involved.

I don't think so this "community" is small, but now Malaysian will also remember this con artist face!!

This guy needs his teeth kicked in. To me thieves are the lowest of the low and deserve nothing less.

How about a facebook write in campaign? Let all his 'friends' see that he doesn't return rented equipment and has used the same excuse multiple times. Maybe his girlfriend/wife will see it too.

Theft of rental property is NOT a civil matter, but is criminal. Go to your local magistrate and file. Mostly likely, they will go pick him up. Thanks goodness you have paperwork...I hope it includes VALID ID information and a signature.

The court would reasonably assume that you aren't going after a dude frivilously for this. Did he pay with a check or credit card?

I'm glad I don't rent my gear...it's just too messy.

We discovered that Dono was a scam artist after contacting the Hernando police, but they were not helpful at all.

My roommate has contact both the Orange county police and the Hernando county police regarding the matter, but was told it is only a "civil case" and would have to take Dono to court.

that sounds like the worst police department ever. they know this guy routinely steals from people, but they don't go and arrest him? wtf?

is there any way to get the media involved? if this guy is preying on all these people down there, it seems news worthy.

Don't start messaging his family. Harassing them can make you look bad in a court case, which is what you need.

I would say to indeed start messaging his family. IN MASS! That means ALL of you. If one person does it, it may hurt a court case, if EVERYONE does it, it becomes an issue. Send NON-THREATENING, informational messages to the gf/wife whatever she is first and the mom. They'll put heat on him. (The women in a man's life are a strong force). Organize it so it all hits at one time. Be firm and tell them exactly what is going on. Let the family know this is beyond a civil matter, it's a criminal one.

That's actually a really good idea. I honestly can't believe no one mentioned it earlier (including myself). When the county/cops don't do enough on any subject, the best way to get them to respond is to get the media involved. I guarantee they'd pick up the story in a second... then the police would pretty much be forced to do something.

Has anyone that has been scammed contacted the DA with all this information. The DA has there on investigators. Since the police seem to have no interest maybe this will work.

If he was here in Chicago Pam Zeckman would be the one to contact. But I don't know who to talk to over there. Also Chris Hanson, the dude that catches the internet pedophiles. He went after internet scammers before so so he may be down.

Try these two links.
I would play up the fact that how long he has beening doing these scams, how many people this asshat has scammed and how despite a long trail of crimes reported the police refuse to stop him.

the government incompetence angle will get them interested.

We might want to start a STOP JOE DONO Facebook page to play up the Q factor for the reporter (internet crime fighters blah blah blah)

We should try and track down all the people scammed and get them on board it will make the story stronger and shame the police more
