Jittery/Wavy Video Playback in Final Cut Pro

hello! quick rundown- using FCP6 and I've recently begun to see an issue in my video playback with both 720 and 1080 footage on my Apple Cinema Display. I'm running a Mac Pro with 4gb ram and 2 x 2.66ghz dual-core Intel Xeon processors, with two 23" cinema displays. The footage lives on a 2tb G-Drive connected via FW800.

Tried to grab a screenshot of the problem to upload, but couldn't get one as the problem only exists when the video playback is in motion. The vertically moving line/jitter disappears when playback is paused...

Any ideas, suggestions, or solutions are greatly appreciated! Many thanks-

not sure what the "line" is, but typically lines are interlacing problems and they are usually MOST visible on still frames.

but "jitter" is an interesting description... are you shooting 24fps? i would bet that what you are seeing might be the "24p cadence" its a "feature" of shooting 24 fps and is a very common complaint from anyone new to the 24p game... not saying you are, just trying to eliminate variables...

current project with the issue was shot in 1080 24pa

I'm aware of the "24p cadence", etc. which is why I see it may be an issue with the playback in the nle.

I'll post on apple's discussion boards, seeing as how this is most likely an issue with my mac in some form or fashion...

I appreciate the quick reply-

im not sure it is. i saw various issues in the video on your homepage, but wondered if that might be encoding issues? i also wonder how you captured the video and what your timeline settings were.

COOL video by the way!

the problem isn't actually "in" the video, only when playing back on my second display. In fact the canvas shows no issue at all...

Initially I thought it might be an issue with the processor and 1080p? The same issue occurs with 720 though-

Thanks for the feedback on the video and checking out the site- I've seen several issues with my videos uploaded through Vimeo- hesitation, audio/video sync issues, stuttered playback, etc but the convenience of Vimeo and its compatibility with HD streaming is hard to beat. Should mention as well that the video you watched (assuming it was the Axis cali promo) was shot on HDV, so any interlacing you might notice is because of the original format...

Wish I could offer a better explanation of the issue? It's more an annoyance that anything, being that it doesn't affect the video itself.
