Jerome Arizona. Born in 1876 and once known as the wickedest town in the west. Jerome was a copper mining camp, growing from a settlement of tents to a roaring mining community until mining stopped in 1953.

Nice. The music was quite apt in many places and definitely made me think there was no way I was going to stay in some of those rooms. :Drogar-BlackEye(DBG

Favorite shot? The bathroom.

Thanks, enjoyed that.

Absolutely the best footage from the Gh3 by far that I've seen. I've been sitting on the fence recently on whether to upgrade from the Gh2's I have... now I want a gh3!!

The images are so pristine and sharp looking!

Looks nice, any reason on shooting 60 vs 24fps?
I was just recently having a debate with someone and honestly I like the way 1080p 60fps from the GH3 camera. Makes it look lifelike. Maybe not every shoot, but certain ones I love the way it looks.

Thanks

Great color Dan,for some reason it will only play stuttery on my pc though, its a pitty i cant see some film with green countryside to tell if my GH is faulty.

Thanks for watching and commenting stoneinapond. Yep, Jerome can be a spooky place. During a stay at the Jerome Grand last year, the neighbors wedged a chair against the bathroom door to keep the spooks away.

Thank you for the positive comment berylium. I'm happy to hear the project got you off the fence. The GH3 has been a joy to work with.

Thanks for watching and the good comments J.F.R.. Most of my projects are best suited to 30-60p/i to prevent pan/tilt strobing. At 24p, only the slowest camera movements appear smooth. Also, 60p allows other editing creativity.

Chris,

You may eliminate stutter by selecting "Switch to HTML 5 Player" in the Vimeo video player window (to the right of the "Download" button). Also, you can download the original file. The Flash Player was causing me a great deal of stutter grief yesterday and switching to HTML 5 set things right.

Good luck.

There's still some distracting stuttering, even in the HTML5 player. My guess is that Vimeo just doesn't handle these smoother framerates very well. A shame, really.

I'm still not sold on 60P (except for use as slow-motion)...still looks a bit too camcorder-y for my tastes. The video does show off the beautiful color rendering and sharpness of the camera, though, for sure. Although the dynamic range in the indoor shots leaves a bit to be desired (e.g. the blown-out ceiling lights). Good video.

Thank you for watching and commenting. It's large, but you can download the stutter free original file from the Vimeo page.

Hey guys,

Where the heck is this "switch to HTML5" solution you speak of?
I am signed in to Vimeo and have this video open in both FireFox and IE on Windows 7 32-bit.
There's nothing to the right of the "download" button and right clicking doesn't show that option. What have I missed?

Hey DP,

Sorry you're struggling. To the right of the Download button, above the Likes section, you'll either see in black "Switch to Flash Player" or "Switch to HTML 5 Player". Several days ago, with Mac & Safari, every Vimeo video was a stuttered mess until switching from Flash to HTML 5. Don't know if Vimeo or Flash was defective, but switching to HTML 5 set things right.

Good luck.

Ha! No dice...
In that exact spot in both browsers is a square ad to purchase a VIMEO PRO account.
While I do have a free account, I suspect the HTML5 option is limited to "PRO" accounts.

Thanks anyway Dan!

Dan,

I was hoping you'd have more video of Jerome, and so you did. Very enjoyable and nostalgic. I've stayed at the Jerome Grand, and several people I met were petrified of ghosts during their stay.

I notice almost all your shots are tripod mounted, do you often shoot handheld?

Nice job! I want to visit Jerome, AZ after your clip. I eliminate stutter by clicking play, and then pause. Then when enough has been buffered, which is seen by the gray line moving to the right, press play again without any stuttering. Another way is to download the clip first... Al

Fantastic video! I just saw this timelapse from nearby Sedona (that's like 25 miles away) that made me remember seeing this thread so I decided to check out your video. I'm going to have to find a way to get to the area after NAB. Is April a good time for shooting there?

I'm glad you enjoyed the Jerome project Cathy. I ran into a police officer checking out of the Jerome Grand one morning, and he reported nightmares and little sleep during his stay. I've stayed 4 or five times, and unfortunately, no ghosts.

I rarely shoot handheld, but due to the 50Mbps GH3 codec, that may change. AVCHD files are noticeably degraded by FCPX image stabilization, but the GH3 MOV 50Mbps survive the process very nicely. This, and some of the handheld videos I've seen in this forum, have me considering my first fully handheld project.

Many thanks for watching.

Thank you for watching and the positive comments Al. I hope your wish to visit Jerome becomes reality.

Most happy to hear you enjoyed the Jerome project Keylight. Thank you for the encouraging words.

April is a great month to visit Arizona and Jerome. If time permits, I'd recommend a visit to the Gold King Mine which is just up the road from Jerome. https://vimeo.com/56171338

Thanks for watching.
