Jealous much?

We all like to show-off our hi-tech toys on this forum. But most of us have some low-tech embarrassments too, that we keep for sentimental reasons or, in my case, because we can't afford to upgrade. You know; VCRs, 8 track players, or a really small TV like mine. Jealous?

Come on, share a pic of your embarrassing gadgets. We won't laugh.

I'm in a bit of a transitional phase...

From left to right: Homemade mattebox, Optiquest monitor, Mac Mini, JVC wood grain paneled S-VHS VCR. I couldn't include my VX2100 because the $500 I paid for it was contingent upon the fact that the seller could borrow it back whenever he had a wedding to shoot.

:violin:
(Forgot to mention the old G4 under the mattebox. Damned thing can barely surf the net.)

ADATs, BRC, (though, not sure why you need the LRC when you've got the BRC). Very similar to my setup, except I've got the older d8b console and HDRs. Argosy desk (I like mine - threw away the black sides - they were gaudy), very nice setup - not set up for surround? Are those 2 Alesis AI-1s?

That better not be ADAT!!! Tell me that is not ADAT! Wow your set up looks exactly like mine did years back. I miss the good old days of recording to tape.

Yes, ADAT (24 tracks of tape based ADAT & 24 tracks hard disc HD24), then I have an old PARIS system and another box running Sound Fordge, Wave Lab, Acid Pro and an older version of Cakewalk. What you can't see is the TASCAM ATR-16 1" 16-track tape machine and all the 1/2-track mastering machines...all old stuff now. I come from the days of razor-blade editing tape.

I worked for Alesis in the late '80s on the development of the ADAT format.
(man, I am getting old!)

I don't always sync everything up...I take the HD24 on remote recording sessions, so I use the LRC for that, then in the studio, I control the deck with the console. As for surround, that's the plan when I build the new room. Here's the basic plan:

LOL! I learned on Tape. If you messed up then it was gone. I can't coceive of any type of destructive recording now. ADATS were the Sh!t! I loved those. I had 3 of the first generation machines and the BRC. Those things took forever to sync up. Then you bounced to DAT. I remeber We bought a single disc CD burner that costs us almost $5000.00 and blank CD's were $25.00 each.

Oh yeah...times they are a changing...NLE was a Godsend when it came out, I remember I was razor editing a narration of a 600 page textbook (27, 90-minute cassettes in the series) when we got our first system. After that, there was NO going back.

...and not only was the hardware & media expensive...it took forever to burn a disc...and you never knew until the end if it was any good! LOL. (I can laugh now, it was painful then)
