Janusz Kaminski & Saving Private Ryan

Anyone who has seen Kaminski's cine in Saving Private Ryan knows he's brilliant. Does anyone know what effect (chemical transfer) or filter he used during the end of the opening Omaha Beach sequence to produce the vertical light streaks/glows stretching through the frame?

These light streaks are created in camera by misaligning the rotating shutter so that the film is also exposed while being transported.

Arri makes a small "Timeing Shift" box for their 435 cameras, where you can continually adjust the effect from 0-100%
