We don't do that because we do not want to fragment the SSDs. This is why we record onto the SSD but when it comes time to delete we need to reformat the whole drive and start fresh. Otherwise the SSD drive space can get sectored and fragmented and then performance quickly begins to suffer. We never want to get in danger of skipping a frame so we just won't do it. The only way to have a pre-record buffer is to do so in a memory buffer before writing to the SSD. All recorder systems do it this way. We could allocate some memory space for this but functionally it wouldn't be very useful, especially in 4K -- maybe only a second or two. And giving space to this means we have to give up space for some of the other useful stuff we've packed into the device.Really? Seems like it would be easy to implement in RAW since it's recording separate DNGs anyway. No internal buffer required. The unit would just automatically always be writing DNGs to the next clip folder on the SSD but automatically deleting ones over 30sec (or whatever pre-record interval is set) and stop deleting them as soon as you press record. And then just move on to a new clip folder/number when you cut.
