January 2016 firmware for Odyssey and Apollo

The Convergent Design Apollo and Odyssey models will get a January firmware update, coming very soon (only so many days left in the month). There will be new features and improvements for all models, including some capabilities never before announced. More information to come soon.

Mitch, you should announce all the new features now to entice new buyers even more! ;-) Sorry, I had to be cheeky.

Mitch, my dear friend Hillary (Clinton) asked me for 2 things :
Why the first image in 4K@120 is always corrupted ? She was disappointed that the problem is not solved with this update.
Why the SSD is "full" after ejection in my computer even if there is only a few GB on it?

I believe there is an issue in the way the data is sent to us that causes a frame or two to corrupt, but this is something you should discuss with our engineers at our Support Desk.

I don't know why your SSD is reading as "full" when there are only a few clips on it. Perhaps you can provide me with more detail, or better yet provide this detail to our Support Desk so they can best assist you. Please email cdsupport@convergent-design.

You can tell Hillary that she's free to contact me directly for any further assistance. But don't send her old pal Donald.

I have already contacted your engineers at the Support Desk. They know the problem ... (4k120)
No problem for Donald, I understand he invested in an Atomos system ... He has bad taste as we all know.

Bug report: The SDI "RECORD" trigger is broken when trying to record 4K Prores from 4K SDI on the F5 .

Cache recording in RAW targeting up to 30 secs in 24p like the F55, could be a good idea for another update ... When you shoot in an axis blind, while waiting for your character.

Impossible. One would need to add a huge memory core just to hold the buffer. The guts for this are simply not available.

Really? Seems like it would be easy to implement in RAW since it's recording separate DNGs anyway. No internal buffer required. The unit would just automatically always be writing DNGs to the next clip folder on the SSD but automatically deleting ones over 30sec (or whatever pre-record interval is set) and stop deleting them as soon as you press record. And then just move on to a new clip folder/number when you cut.

How is it possible we still don't have recording LUTs?? I and a lot of others have been asking for this since the beginning and it seems like probably a relatively easy feature to implement. I just did a job where this ended up being required by the client's request and it was very frustrating to have to figure out a sketchy system of running the 7Q LUTed monitor output through another sketchier recorder on set and delivering the files from that recorder. It just seems ridiculous this isn't an option and is one of the only features left that makes me consider selling my whole FS700+7Q rig for an FS7 or Scarlet-W or another camera that will let me bake in a LUT... Sometimes I need to be able to hand over an image that looks the way we want. I've had several jobs in a row where I used great 7Q monitoring LUTs and shot SLOG2 and provided the LUTs on the drives with the footage along with instructions etc and the final product clearly ended up being some crappy grade an editor did directly on the SLOG2 without touching my provided LUT. It's very frustrating not having the option to deliver images that I know look the way I want. I want to be able to choose my look on set for jobs where I am not involved past principal photography for whatever reason and know that even if they do nothing to the images in post it will look at least the way I saw on set.
