Jag35 Rigs

New to the site, took me awhile to find this but glad I stumbled upon it. Looks like a good active forum!

I'm also new to the DSLR world, picked up a t3i, tokina 11-16 and now I'm looking for a rig. I'll be filming fishing videos on the river and in a boat, so portability is key, as well as price. I have been looking real hard at the Jag35 rigs, first the Field Runner, but now I'm leaning towards the new "Austin" rig. I have been searching high and low for some reviews on this Jag35 Austin and haven't found anything!?

Does anyone have any experience with this rig?

It seems a lot of people here are partial to the Gini rigs, but they don't look like what I'm looking for...They don't look to have the same compactness that the Jag35 does?

Anyway thanks for any advice!

Jag35 makes solid affordable solutions. I own a few of their products, although not a full rig (I frankenstein my rigs).

If you're just flying a DSLR and an average lens, you can't go wrong. And, slide the shoulderpad-rail setup off the offset bar and then take off the handle at the front - that's three easy pieces you can pack away in a bag in 15 seconds.

I've got some Jag gear. It's OK for the money I suppose. Their DSLR baseplate was too flimsy - the rods would rock up and down a bit. I tapped & drilled it and added a second riser.

Their machining isn't spectacular - their centers are off enough that my rods are a tiny bit spread at one end - makes it hard to get handles/shoulder mounts on & off, very tight.

I still use it for my DSLR, now that I've got it tightened up. Their D|Focus is really pretty good for the $$.

I was an early adopter of their rigs and thought they were fantastic for the money as they were the only budget rig's out at the time. Maybe their quality as gotten a bit better but as I've replaced most of my rig with Redrock parts I can see their failings.
Michael is right about the centers being off and causing a small spread, tight on one end and loose on the other. Not a huge deal, but annoying.

The Austin looks like a decent rig for the price, I got the first gen of the 'Field Runner' when it was released and it did it's job till I modded it beyond recognition.

Never order from jag35

Never order from jag35

NEVER ORDER FROM JAG35 if you need something on a deadline. This is honestly my first posting on a topic ever on forums but I am beyond appalled by the lack of customer service from this company.

Mirzha will lie to you until you order it and tell you it will arrive on time and then once you order it they won't ship it to arrive in the time you need it to. Then they will tell you there is nothing they can do. It's a complete joke of a company when it comes to customer service. I've ordered many items online from other small companies and have never come across such terrible customer service. Even speaking to her supervisor does no good. He literally told me "I've had things come late and it's not the end of the world." He clearly hasn't ever been on a production. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF A HEADACHE AND AVOID THIS COMPANY.

I've placed several orders with Jag35 over the last 10 months - I've never had any issues with shipping or customer service; in fact, quite the opposite.

YMMV.

Mostly good stuff for the price, but their hand grips were insecure and never tightened properly out of the box. I won't even sell mine used (barely) because they hold so poorly.

I had a pretty bad experience with both their shipping and their customer service. Among other problems, the one that really bothered me was I needed a small part for the DFocus, and it was said to be in stock on their website. I got the fastest shipping and e-mailed them right away that I needed it by a certain day, so if they could please ship it right away I would appreciate it. I did not receive a response for three days, which is when they told me that it was out of stock. Luckily express35.com had the product and overnighted it to me and saved the day. But I have not had a problem with any of the actual products (minus some of the Jag35 stickers falling off the products). If you are not in a rush, the products are pretty good for the price.
