Jack Daniel Stanley & Mark Johnson's REKINDLED

Nope not at all, but that film is definitely an inspiration in terms of how everyone pitched in and the twin brother director / producer team wrecked their own vehicle driving it off a cliff for a stunt scene etc, and how with all the VFX and stuff they learned all that for the movie and edited on some old version of premiere on a laptop (3 or 4 years ago mind you). The only annoying part was that they are twins ... I was like hell yeah I could accomplish A LOT of shi* if I had a frickin' clone that could finish my sentences and do art direction or make script changes or frame something EXACTLY like I would ... just that kind of telepathic communication and singular purpose shared by another human whose your filmmaking partner is NO FAIR   :)

Barry ... can you tell me what it means to shoot film at 8fps but TRANSFER at 12fps?
Well, yeah, that's just playing back footage at a different rate than it was shot at. Basically exactly what the HVX does when in 24pN mode and shooting offspeed footage.

Now, transferring at 12fps would mean that they shot it at 8fps, and they play it back in the telecine at 12fps, so a 50% speedup. Which gives you the equivalent of 6fps if my math is right. So you could probably just shoot at 6fps (using the Frame Rate Hack) and get a similar effect, but I haven't seen it so I don't know. Is it just really fast sped-up footage?

8 transferred at 24
That's just triple-time footage; set the HVX to 8fps and 720/24pN mode and you'll get the same effect, 8 transferred at 24. Make sure to be using the syncro scan shutter for the proper motion blur.

... what does this mean and could I do it with the HVX and Cinema Tools?
Never used cinema tools, so I don't know, but apparently you can instantly retime a clip to whatever fps you want, right? So that may help get these effects as well.

Ok Jack, I may have said you're looking like the winner here, but I'm definitely taking it back... new dog in town and all that crap... :D

EDIT: I just realized that it was 1:20 in the am and this didn't come off as kidding... so I'm sorry if it came off the wrong way...

Funny. You know the footage/clip looks GREAT! Is there any CC to that Jack, or is that raw? I'd love to see a full rez of it, to see if the HVX is really that noisy in the blacks, or if it's just the web compression in this particular clip.

lol,

clips are raw ... and there's virtually no noise ... look at the edges of the shadows, they are dancing like mad as the compression struggles to redraw the image.

The edges is exactly what I was talking about. Anyway you can post the full rez of that? I've just not seen much HFX footage yet that has good shadows in it, so just curious.

For raw, the lighting & color you have in there is AMAZING!

we shot til 5:30 AM and didn't know how late it actually was in the day til ust now and we realized it and panicked.

So I'll have to do full rez later!
