F35: I've completed my documentary - 4 years after the undertaking

This looks absolutely incredible Mac! This, LA 91, and Snakebite look indistinguishable from film. Can you share your grading process?

Yes! Snakebite look great for sure:

Desert footage, snakebite, LA91 look like film for sure. But I don't think is grading. I think is F35! I think mac's grading with other camera will not look the same. With alexa ok. I think look like film too. But I doubt other cameras. It's F35 and of course mac can frame and light.

Actually that shot is the 35mm sony cinealta lens.
I did two trips, first one was with mostly Nikon glass, second one was mostly Sony PL glass.

So that shot is wide open t2? Did you use bounce and other things for this desert docu? I think lights for sure not. This footage looks better than footage that people use lights and everything. It looks incredible.

Lovely look sir.

As a nikonite Im glad you find them usable even if you did want to step up to cine glass.. was the mechanics the reason or the glass?

As others have said, it's looking fantastic! I'm very interested to know about the logistics of shooting in the desert. What are the details of lens changes with the sand all around? How about the ventilation intakes on the camera? Did those present an issue?

Great write up.

MacGregor: shooting from atop a moving train with the Sony F35:

"Known for his continued work to find alternative solutions that filmmakers can use to create their stories, he is also known for his passion for the Sony F35, started years ago, when he bought – in 2012 – one and wrote, in a post at DVXUser, “The F35 inherits all the work Panavision developed with the Genesis. I was always in love with this camera when it was launched 3 years ago and now that rental companies (the only ones who could afford them) are getting rid of them I thought, heck, I’ll get one even if I only use it to shoot home videos.”

Hi guys!

I just released online the full documentary.

Some background: A few years ago, a couple crazy friends and I rode on the top of hopper cars in the middle of the Sahara to capture the story of a few Africans who do this every day. It was horrible. It was dangerous. I can't believe we survived. But again, these people do this every day. Here is a very small part of their story.

I watched the trailer on PVC a few weeks ago. Beautiful stuff, brother. And even more amazing when you consider the conditions you did it in.

Beautiful as usual mac! All slow motion shots is just F35 50p?

By the way will we ever see snakebite? :)

Yeah, snakebite was released a year ago, google it, it's on vime and youtube.

Slomo on the train docu is all 50i

Nicely done. The dolly was probably a huge pain to haul & use in those tough and remote locations, but it was worth it. It adds just the right extra touch.
