C100: It looks like the auto focus upgrade has the same issues with Sigma lenses

Damn I hope they resolve the issue with the 18-35. Any word whether it works with the Tokina 11-16mm?
 
I figured the Canon lenses would work best but remember the Sigma's can be upgraded with firmware via that USB puck so dont write off the Sigma just yet. We shall see how responsive Sigma is with updates now that we have an issue.
 
I hope so Erk, I really want it to work in the 18-35. As nice as the 24-105 is, I can't justify the 300 hit I'm taking trying to sell the Canon - if only I could swap evenly I would, but I'm not 300 dollar impressed with the Sigma 24-105, especially if it isn't going to work - maybe - with the new AF.
 
The Canon 24-105 is the most used lens in my kit. Add the Dual Pixel performance and it just keeps making it a must have. In the pro stills world it's very popular too.
 
I just watched the above video and I have a DOF question. Is it normal to have that shallow a DOF in that short of a distance at 4.5. I know that when I shoot my DSLR at 2.8 the nose can be in focus and the ear not but I was surprised by this at 4.5, maybe I should not have been. Anyway, I am looking forward to getting my c100 upgraded.

I noticed that as well. I was looking to see how the AF would respond with deeper DOF. Seems like the shifting would be faster right?

It's great to see some optimism on the interwebs and I am in no way trying to negate that but, this problem already existed prior to the new Canon DualPixel Autofocus upgrade. I could not use the one touch autofocus on my C100 with my sigma 30mm f/1.4 unless it was wide open. It wasn't a deal breaker but it definitely was a nuisance.

Are you thinking the new Autofocus Feature will be such a big hit that it will put "new" pressure on Sigma to fix this issue via firmware? I'm just trying to understand why they would suddenly get motivated when they haven't done anything about it until now.

Sigma is making some nice lenses these days and they seem to be interested in making them better with firmware updates by creating a interface to do it with. Hopefully this is the case.
