7D Issues with compression artifacts

Hi. I bought a 7d about two weeks ago and I've been loving it so far. I was taking some videos and getting to know it better and was very impressed with the image quality.

The problem arose when I wanted to export my videos from the sandisk memory card onto my computer. I tried opening up the videos in VLC Media Player and I'd get MASSIVE amounts of blocky compression artifacts on the videos. I then tried loading them up on Quicktime and most of them were gone, but the footage looks jumpy and jittery! I have no idea what to do, and I don't know if it's the camera or if it's a codec I'm missing or what!

This is my first professional camera so I've never had to deal with any encoding processes for HD video. I want to edit on FCP7, so I was wondering if anybody could please give me some tips or point me in the right direction?

Thank you in advance for your help, guys.

Anyone? Anyone at all? I've googled "Block artifacts" and "Compression artifacts" and only get image troubleshooting guides, not video.

It's an HP Pavillion dv7 laptop running on Windows Vista. VLC media player is way worse than on quicktime. Quicktime still is very jittery and jumpy though, like the framerate drops.

I'm going to buy a Mac soon to edit in Final Cut Studio, though.

Thanks for helping me out

I'm not using prores or anything.

its most likely your computer not being able to handle the large files.

I think that is what's going on. I downloaded the latest version of VLC Player and it works most of the time.

I don't plan on using this computer to edit, I just wanted to check my videos. I still haven't bought my mac.

What are the minimum specs I should look for in a Mac to be able to view and edit my files on one?
