Issues with a Sony SDHC 16gb Class 10 card

Hello all

I've had a Canon T3i since about 2 weeks and I am getting an issue that I think is related to the speed of the SDHC card. The camera stops recording after a few seconds especially when shooting in 720p and shows the message 'the camera has stopped recording automatically'. The card I'm using is a Sony SDHC 16gb Class 10 and cost 37 Euros from Mediamarkt which is one of the biggest electronic stores in Germany so it's unlikely to be a fake. Class 10 should surely be fast enough even for 720p, shouldn't it? Is Sony a poor brand or should I try and get a refund for a dodgy card? It was formatted in camera prior to use.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

What you are seeing is typically a media card that cannot keep up with the camera. Formatting the card in the camera before each use may help but basically that card cannot keep up and I wouldn't trust it.

Not all class (10) cards are the same. The two brands most known for reliability are SanDisk (SanDisk Extreme 30MB/s will do in Canon DSLRs) and Hoodman RAW.

Good luck
