Hello All

I am having issues capturing from my XH A1 on mac. Both Avid and iMovie attempt to capture for 2 seconds, there is no preview on the screen although on my camera it plays the file for those 2 seconds, and then everything just aborts capture automatically. What's wrong? Is it my iMac or is something wrong with the camera?

I also use iMac and capturing using iMovie. I don't have this problem. I am detting it to play mode and connect it from firewire. capture window automaticaly popsup when i open iMovie.

Just press Play button and then start button as far as i remember. It should play everything. Ah btw, if it stops and freezes this means software faced with different record type. For example:

If the first shot was 50i and the second shot (after pause) is 24F than iMovie will stop recording and last frame will freeze. So be sure that all tape is recorded with same frame rate.. Hope this helps..!

it sounds more like software / codec issues to me. I can capture all modes to FCP, FCE and iMovie without any problems, although the later only captures to Apple Intermediate codec, and not to a native HDV 1080ix0.

Check the settings you have for the capture, it's likely to be an issue with the capture types you have.

Another alternative is the firewire port of cable - but these are much less likely than the settings you are using.

As an example, are you correctly setup to capture the video type you are expecting, i.e. are you trying to capture HDV 1080i60 but the capture settings in the program are DV NTSC ?
