Iscorama Anamophic Lens Test

Kholi is the man. He knows someone who's selling a bunch of them. 250 bucks?
It's worth more to some than others, 250 would be a fantastic price, if they're in good condition then that is all that should really matter. People will pay what they pay.

So, if I understand this correctly...
There is really only one anamorphic lens to consider at this time, and it's the 50mm f2.8 with Nikon mount.
People have mentioned a couple others, but there seemed to be some quality issues with them, whereas the 50 simply required a corrective lens filter and wahlah, magic ensues.
Since there is no full set available to purchase, the 50's exclusivity obviously presents some limitations in a production.
For some people it just isn't worth it, but I can't resist. I really want this lens, even with the limitations.
I figure the odds of a manufacturer producing a new set of cheap anamorphics that cater to our unique tastes aren't in our favor, so we just have to take whatever we can get.

If Kholi can secure a bunch of them - I think the chance to buy one should be prioritized by post count.

Lol Lee.

Right now I'm scouring online to see what sort of conversions might be worth it. If this dude doesn't have anything left it's gonna be a sad affair.

Also, I do know someone that's got ties to lens manufacturing. As soon as I get back to my computer I'm going to email them about the posibility of producing nikon mount anamorphics.

I assume a set of three would be plenty. Say a 25 50 100 or so?

I say nikon because they'd be manual anyway right? Might as well make them as compatible with every camera as possible. Adversely, maybe just a front anamorphic element with a standard pitch screw mount to strap to other lenses of choice.

That was my first thought too, maybe just the front element is needed ?

Maybe one of those I linked to above might come apart and give us some of squash and squeeze magic.

A lot of people would be very happy with a 25, 50, and 100 in an F mount.

Basically, a better version of the Panasonic AG-LA7200?

Right. Maybe a reverse engineered version of the front element from
the Isco nikon fitted for a 72mm thread for maximum compatibility?
Thinking.

Since my wide angle has an 82mm thread, and the other WA lenses I'd consider using in its place have 77mm threads, then I'd prefer a different interpretation of maximum compatibility.:)

I think a 25mm lens would be the widest you'd adapt, below I couldn't fathom
how the image would look. Severe vignetting comes to mind first and foremost.

Looking at richs footage, the 50 looks pretty much like a 25mm to my eyes wen streched. A 25mm would probably be extremely wide.

That makes sense, and I certainly don't want to make things harder than they already are, I guess I'd just use a 77 to 72 step down ring if I absolutely had to.

that puts me at the head of the queue as I have post seniority but luckily for the rest of you I already have 5 anamorphic lenses/adapters.

my tiffen +1 diopter just arrived it only focuses over a narrow range around 1 meter, it's gonna take some getting used to.

I've been playing around with the front end of the isco 50mm (the isco 36 anamorphic adapter part) and it seems with a step-up/step-down combo I should be able to mount a helios 44-2 58mm f/2 to it. The helios front glass is very recessed so the protruding rear of the isco will fit just right. it won't work with something like a nikkor without some kind of front filter thread extension ring.

Does that mean that when you use the +1 diopter, you can't focus to infinity? only 1 meter? that doesn't sound too good to be honest...

I had been bidding so well on the iscorama until you guys made it public knowledge and bumped up the price to 4x its worth :'(
