Iscorama Anamophic Lens Test

I'm still waiting for my diopter to arrive, without it I'm getting a really deep DOF with hardly any OOF areas.

That's exactly why I sold my first copy of this lens. I had no idea about the diopter thing and couldn't get it to work properly.

Yeah the DOF adapter reverser, I hadn't thought of it either till I read that cinematography thread. My isco 54 has a 95mm filter thread so I'm wondering if it will make a difference if I put a 72mm diopter in between the lens and the isco adapter?

How bad are the video Anamorphic Adapters? Like the Panasonic and the other you tried? No flares or anything?

I still have to do some more tests but they aren't nearly as sharp as the isco 50mm. The isco 54 and panny appear to be about as soft as each other which is a shame cause I'd like to use the isco upwards from 50mm.

Yeah but it still flares and you can use a few different lenses with it.

Question is does the bokeh go Oval or not. If so, then the Panasonic's a decent option.

Actually, it makes sense. Just focus to infinite with the back lens and use the Isco to focus.

Two Irises though?

Something that I don't understand... It seems we can use other focal lengths:

Above 50mm no?

that's the front end of the isco 50mm lens known as the isco 36 anamorphic adapter, the rear glass protrudes and it isn't easy to find a step-up ring long enough to mount it to a lens filter thread. Any anamorphic adapter with a rear thread upwards of 52mm should work theoretically.

I have the isco 54 which also has a protruding rear element but it came with a long step-up ring so I can mount it easily, I don't have a long step-up ring for the isco 36 but I'm going to try and find something.

The panasonic anamorphic adapter has a 72mm rear thread and easily mounts to any 35mm lens with step-up rings.

I looked at the tests with the Panasonic AG-7200 and the feeling is far, really far from what you get with a Isco lens. I don't know why but the bokeh in the tests you guys posted here looks A LOT BETTER and more film like. Maybe it's due to the oval circle of confusion, I can't figure it out but it looks really nice.

Guys, what about rack focusing? Is it possible with this lens?

the shots with the panny don't use a diopter so the DOF is deeper, I'll shoot some stuff with the panny too when my diopter arrives so everyone can compare it to the isco's.

From the copy I had, the focus ring/mechanism was really REALLY sluggish. I'm not sure if that's accurate for the rest of these guys though.

If the Panasonic Anamorphic element doesn't produce similar OOF areas then that's when it becomes pointless to me. You can easily just crop and create fake flares but the OOFA artifacting is the prime reason for me to utilize anamorphic.

I called the guy back today and he said he would give his friend another call since he didn't hear back. If they've got any left I'll post up and whoever gets them gets them.

O'course o'course. Just hoping he hasn't sold them OR caught wind of how much they can go for. Looks like they're about to get expensive.
