Iscorama Anamophic Lens Test

Yikes, did you buy that one from KevinCameras? Hope you didn't pay too much for it.

I called up one of the guys I got my old Pentax glass from back when I was testing and he said he actually knew someone with a few of these, or they had some and some other Iscorama lenses sitting in the back of their shop waiting to be inspected and sold. He'll get back to me asap but I can't see them costing more than about 250.00

Will let peoples know.

mine cost about 200 but it's got a bit of fungus that doesn't affect the image. They are quite rare so I think up to 500 is reasonable considering they are the next best thing to a lomo (but don't tell the dude hoarding them that)

All of which you could show us by doing some stills with what you have.

yeah my bad, I should have gone out in the freezing cold while me and the kids were dying with pig flu just to make you happy. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I have to head out for supplies today so I'll shoot something on the way, an underground carpark should look good.

squig, you're right about one thing, the isco kicks the la7200. I have done a couple of tests and, with the +1, I am quite pleased with the results.

It appears that it does. Though maybe it's only because the image is a bit compressed. Not sure what's going on entirely but:

without any diopters: good for wide shots
+1 for closer shots maybe 3 feet away
+2 for close ups

With the diopters you can't focus to infinity so I would see myself switching between a +1 for dialogue shots and then taking it off for wide shots. With the +1 you do get a fairly nice oblong bokeh.

Can you post some stills? Also, what are you doing to stretch the image back into place?

Are you just using the 16:9 Image or... ?

I will post some shots when I get some better footage maybe later tonight. I usually convert my files to prores right from the start so when I output them I change the size to 2880 x 1080 (since the isco is a 1.5 x anamorphic). I don't know if this is right or the best way to correct the stretched footage.

I always squeeze the image down vertically so that it stays within in an HD format...this way it fits into a 1920x1080 frame but with black bars on top and bottom.

Ooh, 2880x1080, lovely frame size.

Those tests sold me on the lens in a half-second... very good looking anamorphic artifacts there...

Are there other Anamorphic lenses or anamorphic lense adapters that can reproduce this look? I simply love it!

Rich that's a lovely test, thank you.

Did you shoot the footage wide open (f/2.8)? I love the bokeh and the overall feeling... I need to get one of these!

Quick test with the isco and a +2 to see how close/shallow the lens can go. Stretched to a 24:9 ratio which would be 1.5x the horizontal length (don't know if that's quite right though). Looks like a rack focus won't be possible with these...but still. You can see the bokeh artifacts toward the end of the clip.

Thanks a lot for sharing any footage you can, Octopi.

I didn't follow Rich's explanation either, I supposed actually getting a copy and doing some tests is what must be done.

I sure wish the MKii took a PL mount... could just slap the Lomo Square Fronts on.

What do I need to produce this look? what is a diopter and what do you mean by +2?

I just went to my local photo shop and bought a set of macros (+1, +2, +4) 72mm and that's what I used on those shots I put up. I am using a Nikon mount Iscorama 50mm lens (it's an actual lens and not an add on).
