Is this the RED Weapon?

Rob was talking about the 'vocal minority" being "red user worshippers" not owners expressing issues with Weapon.
Who are not one and the same.

A (very) vocal minority.

It's going to be a great day when we can drop this attitude. Let's talk about the camera - not the users.

Yep.

For me, the marketing is a confused mess but most importantly the cameras look great. Though, it's a shame RED products are steeply escalating in price whilst all other manufacturers seem to be producing more for less.

I'm not sure about minority. There is a thread full of disgruntled people saying they will not upgrade and threads popping up all over voicing their unhappiness. There is also a pool where 8 say they will upgrade to 8K, 3 say they will upgrade to weapon 6K, 24 say they don't care and a whooping 107 say they are disappointed. This doesn't look like a minority to me.

And while this was taking place there was 44,000 people online at at Reduser

Meanwhile there are only 8000 Red Epics cameras in existance. With many owners owning multiple cameras. There's alot of unhappiness about Weapon. Very few people need or want Carbon. Me included.

Canon cine primes, I think.

But it's not even that simple: at 40.96x21.6mm, the sensor has a diagonal of 46.3mm, against 43.27mm for the usual 36x24mm full frame sensor. So, even some full frame lenses may not fully cover the 8K sensor.

HD downscaled from good 4K source is so suprisingly better in details than from HD camera.

Cameras are usually designed to give a clean and smooth image. When you downscale 4k to HD, you might be doing it badly which introduces aliasing etc (which, funnily enough, gives it a nice "sharpened" feel). But you wouldn't want to shoot that kind off aliased image as source material.

But if you do it well, it can look a lot better.

These are som 200% crops from a test shot from my a7S, which is regarded as one of the sharpest and cleanest 1080p images around:

And this is the same test shot, with the GH4, 2160p downsampled to 1080p, saved, then scaled up 200%:

More here.

Then again, the RED debayer (done at the PC, not in-camera) seems to be much worse than what everybody else does (in-camera or at the PC). GH4 4K looks a lot sharper than 4K RED, but 4K-from-6K or 4K-from-8K should be unbeatable in terms of sharpness. Not that I care, though: out of my price range by a very long shot, and in any case it's the DR that I'd like to get.
