Is this FS 100 section working for you?

I am asking the question because I think it needs to be asked. I find it very frustrating to come to this section and find posts that should be elsewhere. If you are thinking about buying the FS 100....read and learn from those who are working with it now. If you are just here to read your own posts and debate the qualities of a camera you don't own then spare me and do it elsewhere since dvxuser has so many places for you to wave your opinions.
Since I have been a Panasonic user for many years this group has been my first stop for information and I hope that during the past years I may have helped out or contributed to others as so many of the group have helped me. But this section seems to be, like many others "out of control" and I would hate to think it is because of bias or what ever. I own a Sony FS100 now, I am the same guy, using a different camera.
I am not interested in going elsewhere except maybe reduser.net which seems to be a VERY TOGETHER group. But I don't own a Red......yet.

interesting... i joind DVX when i bought my FS100 a few months ago, and really only visit this section, once in while i'll peak in on some others, not often... i don't see any issues with the moderation here, seems pretty much on topic to me.

How is this section out of control? If you mean by threads that are not FS100 specific, then I'll remind you that you just started one as well with this thread. And why chastise those that don't own an FS100? I'm not an owner, but I shoot with one about twice a month. Do you feel that I m not qualified to contribute because I'm not an owner?

I have to say, your observations don't match mine at all. In fact, the FS100 section is one of the most on-topic sections on DVXUser in my opinion. People are always going to debate the merits of the FS100 and for good reason, it's not a perfect camera, but then again, no camera is. I can understand someone really wanting to get opinions on the FS100 before dropping $6k on investing in one to make sure it is not going to disappoint. For some it will be amazing, for others, it will be a disappointment.

I've had one since they released, so it's always been a love/hate relationship for me. It's been like this for all my cameras. But the most important thing to remember is that there are a varied range of people that are here working with the FS100, and therefore, their feelings are going to be a lot different.

And if you ever find a post that really shouldn't be here, and we haven't caught it yet, just report the post and we'll take a look at it. It's very easy to report them.

David,
Your point is well taken. I have no debate with people who USE the camera. I am tired of silly esoteric discussions around the this camera versus that camera that end with a question to those who own that camera required them to justify themselves. Quite a waste of time and space. The constant "Barry Green" advice to 'buy the camera that is right for you stands." Tired of posts that could be dealt with doing a simple search.
I also never questioned anyones qualifications. As for this thread being started if the Mod feels it is out of context then delete it and others. However, to question with the goal of making things better seems to me to be a contribution not detrimental. If the FS100 section of dvxuser group is indeed as popular as some would have me believe, then perhaps the powers that be could look at a change in structure. Then those who are interested in particular streams can just go there and avoid the rest.

Rick,
This was not meant as a shot at you in any way . I appreciate the work you do and your contributions to the group.

I can definitely understand the frustration, as this is something that happens in almost all camera threads. Why I was surprised at your comment is that it is less here in the FS100 section than any other area I visit, and I visit MANY of them. One thing to consider is the searching mechanism here for information at it's current state isn't perfect and I have a hard time finding posts I know are here. The moderators have discussed this and the site maintainers are aware of this issue and are looking at solutions to overcome this. It's NOT a simple task to undertake given the MASSIVE amounts of data here on DVXUser so they want to be sure if they implement a change to the search capability, it's a good fix.

One thing that makes it difficult is there is a HUGE range of people here that use these cameras from weekend hobbyist to full time professionals, from narrative to ENG to what have you. Because of this, we all have a lot different expectations on what we want the camera to do. Some people can live with certain issues, some people can't. A lot of the back and forth seems to revolve around these sorts of things and where people are just going to have to agree to disagree. Many people who don't have the camera are trying to determine what they can and can't live with if they invest in the camera. The problem is, no amount of reading or examples here are truly going to give you the experience you need to see if the camera is right for you. My answer is, rent the camera. Try it out. Be thorough with your analysis, and read about experiences before you do so you know what to expect.

And the best advice I can give, that I make sure I consider before posting, "don't feed the trolls" :)

FS100 Sticky?

FS100 Sticky?

Rather than start a new thread, I will just bump this one with a few thoughts in mind.

This camera is getting wildly popular, and I see the same questions popping up. (and guilty of asking or thinking them myself)

I'm just brainstorming here….could the FS100 section benefit from a sticky with all the questions people wanted to know but (weren't) afraid to ask? Or would it even be worth the trouble?

Redundant topics:

-best monitor
-picture profiles
-rigs
-editing workflow
-best lenses
-best mics

I don't know, maybe a sticky with links to some of the best threads on the subject or info readily available. There are good and valid questions being asked, I think the veterans of this board have to realize not everyone is up to their level, or some may be just stumbling here via Google or whatever. Maybe "easy answers" would help alleviate having to address redundant posts.

BTW, this camera is desperately in need of a book like Barry's DVX guide. (anyone want to get on that? ) :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Also, a screening room for Sony footage? I dunno, just throwing ideas out.
