Is this even possible?

Well it's not a high rated rumor but what is interesting is they did leak the AF100 prior to it's announcement. They now say a new M43 sensor camcorder is coming. That's as far as I'll go with the rumor till an actual announcement confirming that aspect of it.

Totally a rumor that has no basis in anything. Panasonic is invested in m4/3rds and won't be making any larger sensors for the foreseeable future. M4/3rds is a great format and is starting to gain traction in the professional photography community. To discard that and dump money into a fresh round of R&D for a larger sensor block makes no business sense whatsoever, and thus does not even begin to pass the initial "smell" test.

well its m43 mount with a s35 sensor. that would make a lot of people happy here. anyway i dont know the technical aspects of it but a lot of current m43 lenses would be useless... but a lot of cine lenses wouldnt be.

It would be possible if the camera's functions also included a crop mode that shoots out a 4/3 sized area of the sensor.

That way you'd have the option to shoot whatever you wanted, with a primary focus on M4/3 glass for automated functions. Best of all worlds.

I predicted this a while back. As soon as I can find the post I'll update this post.

M43 and s35 are sensor sizes. You can't make an s35 m43 sensor. that's like saying 2=3.
That's what I thought - but does anyone know if the M43 lens technically can cover s35? Quite agree that it's all rumour and shouldn't be taken seriously, but is it theoretically achievable?

Would that be similar to the GH2 ETC mode, so it would crop further than 2x?

It can't. But, that doesn't matter: it can cover M4/3 sized area, if you want to use the entire sensor (non crop) then you shoot with larger glass

Yup. But 4/3 crop from Super35 Sized Sensor, to exacts. Look at what the D4 (or is it the D800) is doing with their video crop modes for a prime example. FF, APS-C, M4/3.

Or a more expensive example would be RED, shooting 5K, 4k, 3K, 2K. each of those is cropped, so you only shoot that subset of pixel data. Meaning if you wanted to use S16 lenses you could shoot 3k~2K.

This could a very wise marketing strategy within the single large sensor market. With one camera you can continue to serve your M4/3 market, offer a pathway to S35 to those presently invested in M4/3 and offer a new product to those who must have S35

If it IS possible, I'm going to pay whatever amount necessary solely for the novelty of throwing my Lumix 7-14 on it :D
