Is this amount of noise normal with a hmc150?

Hi!

I did some testshots last night in really low light conditions. I used a 35mm adapter (the shoot35 adapter). But when reviewing my footage, I se a lot (IMO) noise all over the image... I had no gain on, shutter was of, but the iris was wide open on the camera and nikon lens.
Test shot (exported in premiere with max settings and two pass rendering)

My scene file is:

Detail +1
V detail +1
Detail coring +3
Master ped -4
B press and Cine-like settings for gamma and matrix.

I've done these settings based to the adapter and the noise. I add just some detail to compensate for the adapter, and I use the B press in combination with the master ped and detail coring to hide and ignore noise as much as possible. But still. it appears all over the place!

Maybe this is normal with any camera because of the low light?

Any wisdom is welcome, because I'm really confused right now:shocked:. Are we expecting to much out of this camera (considering the AVCHD format)?

Thanks for the input! The thing is that we have done a lot of shooting with the HVX and HPX, where we had never this much noise in almost equal ammount of darkness. That's why we are starting to question the capabilities of the AVCHD codec.

Are you transcoding? this can add noise. Also was your adapter working properly that can add noise as well. Not to mention you are shooting in almost complete darkness.

This material that you see has been imported as AVCHD 1080p 25fps, and the output was HD 1080p 25fps with all the render settings at max, two pass, and the bit rate was at about 15 i think. The raw material has the same ammount of noise.. The adapter is at max speed with new batteries. When I look at it it isn't anything at all like ground glass issues, you can really see it is purely "electrical" noise.

If this is how you actually want the footage to look (as in the amount of light etc) then you have to shoot it with MORE light than this and create this look during the color grading process. If you try to shoot 'this' in 'this' light then yes you will get noise. The only way to rescue shots like this is to use a bit of Neat Video magic.
