is this a scam?

Anybody want to send to the vendors in question? I just looked at the Broadway Photo site, and from it you would thing that if you bought a camera from them it would qualify for the Rebate. It won't.

Best,

Jan

i can't believe these guys sold 10s of thousands of stuff. I've heard nothing but bad reviews from them but then they got a 97% positive feed back. .............I wonder what these fools look like...

the problem is a lot of smart people feel that they are not being responsible unless they comparison shop. punch in a dvx to one of these price comparison web sites that finds you the best price and "Abes of Maine" pops up for $400 less than "B&H." As a hobbyist, which would you call first?

Also the Scam Artist Dealers are advertised in legitimate Videographer and Computer publications, which I think is a case of negligence by these magazines. Expoosing their subscribers to fraud (and they are often very aware of this) is overlooked for a few advertising bucks.

And a glossy web site does not equate to a reputable brick and morter business. Often these places are nothing more than warehouses or cheapo store fronts that you would Never walk into and buy this camera with any comfort at all. Have you seen the link on this board to the site where a guy went out and took pictures of the storefronts of these places. It is hillarious, but sad. I wouldn't buy a stick of gum from half these places. No joke.

To me, Broadway Photo is the worst of these Scams and I feel that I am not exaggerating to say that it is like watching something out of "The Sopranos." I think somehow the equasion needs to be changed, because I think it is totally understandable how every week, someone asks if it is a good idea to buy from ______________ (insert con artist here). And for every person who actually seeks input on this board, I bet there are 10 who do not get that far.

Bet they wrote most of the good reviews themselves. Doubt there is a criteria that stipulates being an actual customer on these review sites.. Is there?

faked reviews a certainly a factor. but also i noticed one of these companies had like a 98% feedback rating on ebay with thousands of purchases. don't think it could be faked and bet that they sell a lot of cheaper items (under $100 and people are happy, but bet all of their failure rate (and their profit margins) come from deception on the big ticket items. these people have refined their tecnique to a high degree.

Jeez, isn't it easier at that point just to be honest. I mean if someone is going to spend weeks planning how to rob a bank for what they have in their cash drawers, isn't it easier to just sit down and come up with a legitimate business plan that will net 10x more money in a year? It can't take any more dedication or thought....

That's why I posted THIS a while back.
If more of us complained maybe they would eventually stop....

RUSH - your problem is that you don't think like a scumbag....so it just doesn't make sense to you...

True. It's mindset that I am familiar with. I know a few people that spend 5 times as much time trying to work an angle than they would if they just gave an honest deal. It seems stupid, but they are obviously making money.

Different Perspective.

True, to a degree. Based on first hand experience, I once left someone a positive just to avoid a reciprocal negative. On a different occasion, I left someone a neutral and received a negative in return. So, the eBay system is slanted in favor of the person doing the shafting. I don't think these companies are as clean as one might think based on their feedback portfolio.
