is this a scam?

After hours of reading and trying to understand the grey market, i cannot for the life of me figure out what this company is going to give me.

What is this ebay seller doing?

it says -Item is brand new, USA produced and comes with a FULL USA MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY- right on the page, yet does NOT come with any Magic Bullet software. Please someone help me, im losing sleep over this :undecided

p.s. If i DO happen to be ripped-off and given a grey market camera, would this -USA WARRANTY- statement, along with the rest of his advertisement be enough evidence for false advertising?

Didn't BH lower their prices of dvx100a down to *2890 also? I don't guarantee you it is a scam but ebay is no guarantee you will get a guarantee, woooooo.

Don't buy from ebay, period.

Anytime you see items included like filters that are " Titanium anodized finish".... that should be a dead giveaway that's it's one of the brooklyn scam sites....
Look through their ratings and find all the "rating withdrawns".....
Call Rush @ EVS - Here's the number: Toll-Free: 800.238.8480

thank you all for your replies, i wish i would have asked sooner. Sadly i already placed the order and sent the money yesterday. Im just hoping i dont get ripped off with the warranty, although i think if i do, the companys false claim of a -USA MADE PRODUCT AND USA WARRANTY- would be plenty to get my money back, i hope :undecided

there are some threads here about how to cancel the order, your card, refuse to receive the product, etc. not telling you what to do, but the further you go in this process, the harder it is to prevent being taken. I'd do a search and read through the authorized dealers thread and consider some of your options. good luck.

I hate those scam places. I originally ordered from one of them and I found out immediately after that it was grey market and they wanted me to call them. The cancelled my order because I wouldn't buy any over-priced accessories. I'm glad I got out of it though and bought from b&h. Definitely worth it.

I've never dealt with EVS but they're supposed to be great... so yeah. Just pick either one of those and don't try to look too hard for excellent deals from smaller businesses. It's like the old saying goes, "If it seems to good to be true, then it probably is"

just checked that ad again:
"Digital Still Picture Capable: Yes"
I guess if you consider frame grabs from the timeline to be "still picture capable".........

and this:

5 Panasonic Mini DV Tapes
ay-dvm60ej.jpg

  • 60min recording time in SP mode, 90min support in LP recording mode.
  • Metal Evaporated Tape.
Panasonic "Linear-Technology" realizes outstanding high reliability and compatibility in LP mode.
  • MSRP: $69.99
  • CBD
$70 bucks for 5 tapes?? Even the MQ tapes are cheaper than that. Don't use these crappy consumer quality tapes in your camera... if you get it.

It should be but, the problem with ebay is that the guy on the other end can be outstandingly slippery, he doesn't even have to be a brick and mortar. I can tell you right now this is not a US product, it will not qualify for the rebate, free battery, free tape, DVX Book nor Magic Bullet nor will it have a US warranty. It is the price that is the give away.

Look at the price that EVS gives, it is somewhere around $3395. From that price you get the $300 rebate, and then the $295 Magic Bullet, the $69.95 DVXBook with DVD, the $240 worth of the AMQ tapes, and the $189 Panasonic 5400mA battery. All of that totals up to an additional discount of over $1000 and it is all cool stuff that you can use. So a DVX from EVS would cost after all is said and done about $2300 and you would have a warranty.

You should figure out a way to cancel this purchase order.

Best regards,

Jan

I know everyone wants to get the best deal or save a little cash.....but every post I see about someone asking if they buy a grey market product will they get exactly what they ordered. ....it's a gamble!!

I was tempted myself so I could spend the extra money on lights or whatever....but I read the reviews on B & H Photo and bought from them....I just saved for a little longer and I'm glad I did.

I see so many people asking other people's opinions about buying grey market and then go forward anyway after being told it's a bad idea. So in a way it seems people want comfort or reassurance that the bad decision they just made will be ok in the end. :undecided

I imagine this gets very frustrating for Jan and many others that provide so much important info for the rest of us....

......just my 2 and a half cents! Enjoy your day!

oh my god, I almost ordered from this ebay guy..
glad I didn't.
But it seems OK though..
I know the accessories are pretty crappy, but the camera seems like a brand new item, same as BH...................................I think...................maybe not :undecided

I just checked EVS, but I don't think they give away AMQ tapes and 5400ma battery.....right??

Yes, all purchases from authorized dealers will entitle you to receive the free box of AMQ's and the free battery. Those items come from Panasonic when you fill out your rebate form.

Oh cool, thanks!

However, I have some bad experiences with rebates for other electronics.
Either they lose my receipt or it takes forever to get the rebate.(about 6months!!)
How is panasonic's rebate??

Estimated time is 4-6 weeks. I think most have gotten theirs within the timeframe.

The bad news is that I did order my camera from these same guys and they screwed me. The good news is, after I fought with them for a while and threatened legal action on the warranty, they refunded me some cash for the crappy lenses they sent. Meaning that you can beat these guys if you persist. Jan wrote me a letter after tracing the serial number. The camera was manufactured for Japan and HAD NO US WARRANTY. The invoice said that they supply a full manufactures warranty, which constituted a breach of contract. I did contact an attorney who agreed to call them if need be and I included him in all my correspondence. The guy from digitalcorp lied right to me on the phone, swearing that they were a legit dealer for panasonic. When I told him that Panasonic said otherwise, all he said was that didn't make any sense. The problem that I had was that I didn't begin this process til a couple months after buying my camera. My package had a couple of crappy lenses that didn't work right and that's when I started doing my home work, and I found out about the warranty issue. It was really too late in my mind to try and get a full refund (Even though Jan recommended that to me)

So cancel this order. Right now. Call your credit card company before you even go to the bathroom or walk the dog. I got a very minor victory over these guys, but it took months of threats, letters and e-mails to get a $150 refund for 2 lenses that should never have been part of a package for a DVX

I found this information on the NY BBB website:

http://www.newyork.bbb.org/library/publications/subrep45.html#Warranty

"In New York State, any retail dealer who offers for sale gray market goods must disclose the following information, when applicable:

The product is not accompanied by a US warranty;
The product is not accompanied by instructions in English;
The product is not eligible for a rebate offered by the manufacturer.
The above information must be posted on either a sign attached to the item, a sign at the point of sale such as attached to the cash register, or a sign clearly visible to the customer from the register.

If a merchant violates any of the above provisions, the buyer has up to 20 days from the date of purchase to request a refund or credit on a credit card purchase provided that the item has not been used or damaged by the buyer. Also, the New York State Attorney General can fine organizations that violate the above provisions. Penalties of $500 can be imposed by a court of law for each violation. Gray market goods may also be available by mail order. New York law states that any retail dealer engaged in a mail order business selling gray market merchandise must include the information stated above in its print advertising. The information must be in type of a conspicuous size."

I hope this information helps anyone who intends to buy or has bought gray market goods. Gray market goods are not in and of themselves a bad thing. Money can be saved and the products are normally identical to non-gray goods. We live in a global marketplace where goods produced by multi-national corporations are bought and sold all over the world in various packages and forms. It is up to the buyer and seller to negotiate in good faith as to exactly what those goods will and will not represent. Buyers do your homework, sellers be upfront.
